Harmony on the Peninsula is a beautiful building tucked away in Yorktown. Close to Poquoson, Newport News and Hampton. Fresh prepared meals and wonderful homemade banana bread that can be found in Bistro along with other special treats.

I had the opportunity to tour Harmony on the Peninsula today. My first impression was great, the community looks so inviting. The facility layout was convenient and the rooms were very large and accommodating. The food looked and tasted great! The best part was the friendly staff who were always smiling and supportive. I would absolutely trust this staff and facility with myself or one of my loved ones!

POOR MANAGEMENT, LOW MORALE, CHRONIC UNDERSTAFFING. The facility looks clean and well-decorated. But the problems run deep, stemming from leadership that turned over by 100% in our 1.5 years there, and became more disorganized and disconnected with each new director. The current executive director claims to be experienced, but she admittedly has no medical background and is a poor and disliked leader, evidenced by chronic unhappiness and turnover of the already understaffed care provider team. The food is passable, but the mealtime service is riddled by understaffing and disorganization. In one of many examples of lapses in care, our mom with late-stage dementia was forgotten and left in her dining chair after one meal ended, and then discovered that she was still there napping when the next meal begin. The care providers try hard and seem to genuinely love the residents, but were increasingly openly frustrated with the management. One indicative example of the behaviors of the deservingly hated executive director was that she was overtly hostile and verbally abusive to our friend for visiting to ensure our mom ate and was comfortable, even after we notified the ED that our friend is like family and had been helping us care for our mom for many years. Our complaints and requests to Harmony corporate were unanswered. Ultimately, I would warn anyone looking for a caring, organized, happily well-staffed assisted living facility for their precious loved-one to STAY AWAY from Harmony on the Peninsula.
