        Located on a military base - Fort Story Must show ID at the gate to enter the base and yield ID - and pass security screening - at parking station to take the free shuttle to the Cape Henry Lighthouse area. Visitors are given a map of the area with marked blue boundary in which civilians must remain. Steep steps lead up to the lighthouse from the admissions office. 191 stairs in the lighthouse with short ladder to climb into the old lantern room. Beautiful views!

        Great opportunity to see two lighthouses within walking distance of each other. One being old and decommissioned. The other is active and you cannot climb it. Beautiful view from the top of the old Cape Henry. The Cape Henry National Park Memorial is only a 5-minute walk from either lighthouse.
