Judy Bass and her group were an incredible help with the difficult and stressful process of college choice and application. We needed a lot more hand-holding than other families and we got just what we needed and more. Truly getting to know the student’s needs and interests and then patiently applying years of experience and up to date advice. I don’t know how we could have done it without her!

I had been trying to find a consultant to help with my son's college applications, but was having trouble, I assume because he's targeting conservatories. [It also seems as if consultants have no shortage of clients, which puts the customer in a bad spot.] He doesn't have a 504, IEP or other special accommodation plan, but he does have some executive functioning issues. To her credit, Ms. Bass did seem hesitant to work with us, but I persisted, and she agreed to a 90-minute consultation. We provided the requested documentation in advance of the meeting, so I was expecting she'd offer a rather comprehensive plan to assist with the process (as well as a marketing presentation detailing how she could work with us going forward to make the process easier). To me, this would include a schedule of what needed to be submitted where, and when (she had a list of schools my son is targeting). Ideally, it also would include multiple mini-deadlines to make sure he stays on track. What we got instead was a document she prepared during the meeting with the specific essay prompts for each school, which we clearly could have produced ourselves for free. She also critiqued a draft of an essay, but her comments were nearly identical to those of my son's counselor, which were free. She asked early in the meeting, "What can I do for you?" I was expecting her to show us what she could do for us, and when the meeting ended, I felt totally ripped off. The purpose of this review is to discourage others with relatively minor issues from using this company. There are consultants out there who are way less expensive, and in the absence of a disability or serious issue, you should use them.
