Upon arrival and during my first visit I felt confident that the doctor was there to give me excellent care. But as my visits continued the same quality of care I got before did not apply now. There was often times it seemed like he was too busy with two other surgeries (that's why he showed up late to my appt) to give me the quality time to listen and review physical therapy notes. I felt as though I was being rushed,my concerns were overlooked, and the doctor would say one thing and then proceeded to tell me something different as I returned for follow up apts. One minute he agrees I may need surgery but wanted me to go to physical therapy and see how that contribute to my recovery. Physical therapist said I was still limping with moderate pain and swelling. Now he's not even talking about surgery and would rather put me in a cast that realistically I probably should have been in before physical therapy before I wasted 10 of the 20 free sessions....this place has left me very frustrated and confused I'm 30 years old I can't walk without a limp I can't run so God forbid I have to run for my life. I came to this office for a second opinion. Dr. Phillingane was awesome at my appointment. He took the time to review X-ray and MRI report and images with accurate details of my concerns. He answered all my questions that won't told to me before. I should've came to him from the beginning. I recommend his office to anyone in the Petersburg and tri-cities with foot problems.

"0" NO STARS TODAY! Warning! Be careful with ALL foot surgery! Disclaimer: This review is not intended to discredit, libel or slander any person or persons. It is my own personal opinion and the accounts are per my experience and reflections. My prior positive review of Dr. Phillingane (Dr. P.) dated has been negated by a catatrophic and life altering post surgery incident resulting in the sudden death of my beloved husband. My husband had ankle fusion surgery performed by Dr. Justin Phillingane on May 19, 2023 and just (12) twelve days later I found him deceased in our home. His medically documented cause of death is related to the recent ankle surgery. My husband was due to return to work in 6-8 weeks after the surgery but instead, he is buried in a family cemetery and will never walk or breathe again. How could this happen w/out warning? My trauma from the shock and loss of my beloved husband and family provider was exacerbated by the lack of care and empathy shown by the office & medical staff of Dr. Phillingane's office. My husband had been a regular and frequent patient for several years but we appear to be treated as if we were an infrequent customer in line at a local retail store. First, I had to demand many times to see the doctor while I was crying and visibly and emotionally upset over my husband's death. On the post-sitgery appt. my husband did not enter the office with me as usual. Dr. Phillingane's staff never questioned where my husband was or if he was okay even though this was my husband's first follow-up appointment days after his ankle fusion surgery. Wouldn't a doctor's staff want to know why the patient did not come out of the car with his wife for the follw-up appointment or want to check to make sure the patient was okay? The office/desk staff appeared to be unconcerned for my husband's whereabouts and attempted to cancel my appt. They then reported that Dr. P was immediately leaving for the day(?). Dr. P's staff did not respond until I began to cry and scream, which brought Dr. P. out to the waiting room. I was finally able to share with Dr. P that his long time (and one of his very first) patients died after the ankle surgery Dr. P had recently performed. I gave Dr. P. my husband's obituary and a funeral home card with notice of services and burial information. Dr. P. spoke with me briefly in his office but sadly, neither Dr. P. nor none of the many staff from his office made sure I was calm enough to drive home. Dr. P or no one from Dr. P's staff escorted me to my car as I was leaving his office while I was still visibly very upset, sobbing, shaking and very emotional over my husband's death after the ankle fusion surgery by Dr. P. days earlier. I felt alone and uncared for in that office, with no support of my husband's loss of life or my natural grief for him. Hard to believe, given that my husband was their frequent patient for several years! I have never received any additional contact, call(s) or follow up from the office of Dr. P since my husband's death. In conrast, from our family doctor and staff, I have received caring personal phone calls and a card of sympathy and condolences and so much support. As of this date, no correspondence or display of condolences have been received by the office or staff or Dr. P. Ironically, I have received many extremely exorbitant medical bills and financial charges from the ankle surgery. This affirms that my address is known and documented by the surgical team and medical staff. One ankle fusion surgery cost my beloved husband his life and has devastated me and my family in ways that we can never fully recover from. My suffering is unbearable and I keep questioning how this could have happened. I continue to wait for my answer from Dr. P. and his ankle surgical team. It has not come yet. (??) Office staff of Dr. P. need training in customer service, empathy, crisis response and manners. EJS 11/05/2023
