I renovate old houses and while my husband and I are able to do many aspects of the work, there are things we do not have the skills or sometimes the time to do. I have hired Karen Fox Contracting many (10+) times since 2016. They are professional, extraordinarily skilled, conscientious, meticulous and caring. Many hours of thought and planning go into some of these renovations. Sometimes there are multiple site visits to gather information and create plans. It is extremely difficult to find a general contractor with an appreciation of early 20th century homes and this company remains at the top of my list of people to call when I need things done. One example I can offer is this - our 1900 Queen Ann had a poorly built, not original staircase between the first and second floor. There was also a door from the outside that went into a closed off space, which used to continue to the staircase and lead upstairs. That was an addition done in 1926. We hired this company to incorporate that space into the living area and rebuild the stairs into a proper Victorian staircase. This involved the following areas of construction: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, fine woodworking and finish work. Support piers were built under the house to take the load from the 2nd and 3rd story when the original exterior wall was removed. A lam beam was installed. Plumbing was hidden inside a chase designed to look like a beautiful column. The finished product is a glorious staircase that one could easily think was original. They have also replaced foundation members, installed a french drain system underneath a basement floor, running to a sump pump, built several decks, walls, etc. Last year, they removed a badly leaking box gutter system from the roof of a house I'm renovating and rebuilt the entire roofline to include the soffit and facia, period appropriate architecture. I've always been very satisfied with the work this company has done. Paid in full to complete repairs for old tile in bathroom. Did not complete job, did 1/4 of what we contracted with them to do. We still have leaks. What was done was done unprofessionally. Ceilings are a mess, obviously not knowledgeable about drywall work. Left a huge mess in our home we had to clean up. Our insurance company is investigating as they also paid for repairs. Do not use!
