Dr. Hartman takes on medically complex patients and does so much extra research for each complicated case. He has been creative and persistent at trying to help myself and others like me find relief when most doctors have given up completely. He takes each patient to heart and goes out of his way to help each of us.

I have enjoyed an amazingly positive experience with Dr. Hartman. He uses a wider range of tools for your holistic health and spends time with you during the appointments. He lives in reality and tries to offer meaningful lifestyle changes for consideration without mandates or unrealistic timetables. He has restored my faith in medical professionals.

For some reason, Google reviews won't let me respond to reviews so I have to post responses to reviews here, like this. The pandemic has been very hard on many small businesses, especially those in the healthcare field. However, we never closed during the pandemic, not one single day. We were open Monday through Friday, every day of the week, as well as weekends and evenings, our usual business hours. We made this commitment to our patients to be there for them when they needed us. At the same time, we were able to change over to doing telehealth visits within two weeks. At first I thought this was quite slow, but when I realized that the healthcare systems and hospitals around us took almost two months to do the same thing, I realized we actually were providing unparalleled care for our patients. To state that, again, our medical office never closed for one day during the pandemic. Our major purpose for this was to be there for our patients when they needed us to be there for them, and to keep them from needing to go to the hospital or emergency rooms unnecessarily. We did not want our people to feel abandoned, and we were there the entire time. However, the pandemic has been hard on many small businesses. We've had a hard time finding employees to staff or office and how to do something we've never had to do in our 40 year history. We had to close to new patients for several months. This was really hard for us because it was counter to our values to be there for when people need us. But we had to just simply from a staffing perspective, we've had multiple practitioners and people leave in the last year and beyond and have been unable to fill those spots. But to reiterate the same time we've never closed the doors we've always been open and available to the patients we take care and serve on a daily basis. I'm proud of that record. Now we'll never shy away or back away from it.

I am very sad about some recent events. I have been a patient of Dr. Hartman's for 20+ years. He is a great doc! I have shared my good experience with him to many folks in Powhatan and other family members. Heck my best friends and parents have him as a their PC! But this year I have to say I am disappointed. 2 weeks ago I contacted the office to set up a wellness visit and I was told that I wasn't a patient of his and he was not taking new patients. Now, I was more than surprised by this news as I had received no information telling me I was dropped. I asked how I was NOT a patient as he has been my doctor personally and for my wife and 2 kids for decades. I was told that since I had not seen Dr. Hartman in 3 years I was dropped. My response was how in the world was I to know about that policy and furthermore even though I was completely healthy during Covid, my family wasn't and you saw them often during the last few years. In fact, you have seen my wife, son, and daughter more than 15 times in the last 3 years. So I didn't get Covid symptoms, need medical care, and was otherwise healthy and you dropped me as a patient? There was silence on the other end of the phone. The lady then said she could put me to Dr. Hartman's nurse. She did and I went into a hold loop. Finally a person came to the phone it was not the nurse. I asked for an appointment, told my story and was put on hold to wait for an administrative person. When that person came to the phone I inquired again about setting a wellness appointment. Again I was told I had to be put through to Dr. Hartman's nurse. I was put through again and I left a message with details and questions for Dr. Hartman's nurse. A week went by and no one returned my call. I called the office, and I was told I would have to speak to Dr. Hartman's nurse. I was put on hold and she then picked up. She was completely matter of fact, did not answer any of my concerns, and stated that I wasn't a patient of Dr, Hartman and he was not taking on new patients. So here is my thoughts: I did not set a wellness in 2020 and 2021 because my understanding was the Healthcare system was OVERWHELMED. In early 2022 I added another life insurance policy for work and received all the normal blood and urine testing for free. I simply wanted to set an appointment with Dr. Hartman to go over the results and chat him up about medical stuff. I am very disappointed that Family Practice Associates and Dr. Hartman dropped me for not seeing him as a patient in the last 3 years. I think it is very poor customer service to implement a policy to drop longtime patients without notifying them. I am also a little salty that they would take our hard earned money (we are self pay) for so many visits in the last three years for my wife, son and daughter and then I get dumped?! I really am bewildered that not one person apologized for the poor customer service I received and dropping me as a patient. I get that Dr. Hartman wants to trim down his case load, heck maybe he is getting ready to retire - okay no problem but when you start doing that communicate to folks in advance. Share policy changes in advance. Everyone knows Dr. Hartman can't see everyone the same amount in the future. Also take a minute and think about cutting out family members from longtime relationships. Think about this idea: you are going to cut me out but keep my wife and kids? How in the world does that make sense. I have been the one for the last 22 years busting my hump so mom can stay home and take care of the kids! My office time is the same or most likely more hours than your office time so it is a little harder for me to carve out time for wellness visits but I did and when I was sick you betcha I was setting appointments and coming to see you but I have been blessed and oddly really healthy - praise God. I hope these details can communicate my reasons for being very disappointed. And now after all these years I have to find a new doctor. It really makes me feel like all I was to Dr. Hartman and Family Practice Associates was check book.

Honestly, I went to/and trusted dr. Hartman. After all, he was my family doctor for years. I was drastically let down while under his care for my out of control eating disorder though. After initially telling him that I was really struggling, the first thing he said was well, Ive seen people much worse. My eating disorder saw that as a challenge and I got to a really low weight, organ failure, and lab work that he had never seen before and maybe I should just go sit in a hospital somewhere. It was pure negligence on his part.
