Why open a place like this with inexperienced staff?
    Jan 20th, 2024

  • Melissa Harris

My grandmother had a quadruple bypass surgery on July 6 at Lynchburg General and then was transferred to Centra Specialty Hospital because her 20 day Medicare time was up...what a joke... after spending about two days there and having diarrhea due to medications given by staff, she had to use her call button right much because she just had to use the bathroom... a CNA named "Ronnie" verbally told her "she was more troubled than she was worth"... absolutely unprofessional and untalented! Then onto another instance where a staff member, which the name was not caught, told me grandmother "she didn't have time to deal with her" ... I will not stop until those who have done wrong to my family member are punished. Although unlikely due to our experience, I can only hope and pray others have proper, respectful care from this facility!

This place is dirty, outdated, and the staff seem inexperienced. You'll be hard-pressed to find a real RN on staff (only minimally trained LPNs). This place is not equipped enough to be a hospital, and doesn't have the staff or expertise to be a rehab or skilled nursing facility. It is the worst of all worlds. They are very understaffed and unable to give the care and attention the patients need. Lastly, the night of December 17th I knew my father would not make it the night by the sound of his lungs (the death rattle). No one was managing his care seriously or taking my family's concerns seriously. I pleaded to stay the night but the nurse on staff, Miranda, assured us without a doubt everything would be fine and that he sounded great and was actually improving. She said we have absolutely nothing to worry about. As my intuition and experience forewarned me, he did not make it the night and I will regret not staying with him the rest of my life. He was doing well before entering in this death trap of a facility, and barely lasted a week under their neglectful and subpar care.

My son was transferred there. I must say as a RN myself , it was a horrible experience. When we arrived we were met by a extremely aggravated nurse because transport was late, she stated she had to get his medications in the computer and could Not answer any questions . She said the next nurse could answer any questions and she had to leave because she had a family function to go to any she was already gonna be late. She let us know" We " were causing her to be late. I remember wanting to put my son back on that stretcher and get out of there. The primary physician was great and fairly helpful. The neurologist's primary goal was for me to remove my sons feeding tube and allow him to "die with dignity". Some of the young nurses were cheering us on in hopes to see progress in my son. Others nurses and the therapies had No interest. I wasn't even told therapy was cancelled. I found out by a CNA who came in to do range of motion..My son was in "Vegetative state" and they had No hope. Thankfully they did give up on him and we were transferred to a Nursing home/Rehabilitation center , where they gave him their all. The staff constantly rallied for him and did everything they could for him. Much to everyone's surprise my son Woke up from vegetative state and has been home for a few years, He is talking , eating, thriving and totally involved in Politics and one would Not know he had a brain injury... I understand some Md's and staff have changed there , so that may be a plus. My advise is check out your options, may sure the facility that is chosen is rehab oriented and is in your corner for recovery. This facility by far was on our side to do what they could for him. The neurologist even printed off articles for me to read about allowing one to "die with dignity"... If I had the chance to redo all of our events , I would have done a little research, but I didnt due to being exhausted and emotionally depleted . My mistake.

Immediate assessment, immediate action and medical plan. Dr. Johnson, fellow medical staff and administrative office group were caring and resolute to save my brother from his dangerous medical condition. Communication and status updates are complete and supportive to all family members involved. He is SAFE & in the facility he should have been a year ago. They are a true blessing.
