The Virginia DMV is just a mile or so away and recommended Skyline Bank to notarize a document, so I stopped by around 4:30 today. There were plenty of tellers and not many customers. To my surprise, they werent willing to notarize a simple DMV document because thats a courtesy for our customers. Well its a discourtesy for this non-customer who wouldnt patronize their bank if they gave me 50% interest on a savings account. What an opportunity missed to show a potential customer and his four year old son how to attract new business to their bank. I gladly offered to pay for the service but was given a hard no from all the tellers who who were otherwise not busy at all. Ive never encountered a bank with such a silly policy. This is a sign that management doesnt empower its team, rather insisting they recite company policy than have any flexibility to win new customers.
