Your tax documents were dropped off by your mother long past our deadline for new clients. She was told at that time you would likely need to get an extension. Unfortunately, she did not complete an information sheet for you at that time. We did not meet with you or have your contact information, which made it impossible for us to contact you directly. When you did contact our offices late on the 18th, this was all explained to you and also the fact that your tax return was not affected by the deadline. Though there was no need, you and your father came into our offices and finalized your return that same night. As for the cost, it is dictated by the forms and schedules needed to complete your tax return and are well within industry norms. You called our offices long after the deadline for new clients and were told you would likely need to get an extension. You dropped off both your and your son’s documents on April 6. You completed the information sheets required for all clients, only for yourself and your husband. You were assigned to a tax preparer who reached out to you and talked to you a couple times about your return. When she could not reach you by phone, she sent an email with no response.At 4:40pm, on 4/18/23, the deadline to file tax returns, we received a call from your son asking why no one had contacted him. Since you didn’t fill out an information sheet for him, we did not have his contact information. Your husband was contacted and even though you did not have to file your taxes on the 18th, your husband and son came into our offices to finish your tax returns that night. Remember, you were told you would likely need an extension since you dropped off so late, but your preparer put in the extra effort to get them done before the deadline. It was also discovered at this time some information you listed on our information forms was incorrect and required a change on the tax return. Your tax preparer chose to give you a very hefty discount on the price of your tax return. There was nothing more we could have done to appease you.We wish you the best of luck in finding a tax preparer who meets with your approval.
