After an injury we were happy to get immediate veterinary care from a highly competent and very friendly staff. Our dog Lily was calm and left with a good experience.

I took my dog to Autumn Trails on four different occasions, and left the practice feeling that overall, the practice did not have accountability for errors on their end, and bad communication. My first visit was a general wellness for my dog. I was looking to find a female owned and operated practice, and had heard good things. My dog is anxious, and I felt that the staff helped me and him both with managing his anxiety, and I left this visit feeling optimistic. Three days later, my dog required emergency surgery, the result of something that should have easily been noticed and checked during his preventative visit days prior. No one in this visit acknowledged I had been there days prior and his report was healthy. Following emergency surgery, I was told by the vet that he had likely cancerous mass. I asked her point blank if she felt it was cancer, and she said yes. Cut to two week follow up visit, the same vet checks my dog and reports that the mass she determined without diagnostics was probable cancer, wasnt. No acknowledgment that she stuck a likely cancer diagnosis on my dog and I was mentally preparing for end of life care with my otherwise healthy dog. With all this, I lost faith in the practice. They did have staff members (client services, vet techs, etc) who I felt like cared and supported by, but were overshadowed by lack of accountability by the vets and ownership. The cherry on top - I requested records to bring to my next vet, they provided and listed him at the top of his chart as aggressive dog. This was news to me. The practice never told me that he exhibited aggressive behaviors during visits, and this was not documented in his visit notes to explain why he was considered aggressive. He had been to another vet practice prior who never noted this. I requested to speak with their lead vet regarding this, but do not have faith through past experiences that they will bother to take accountability or rather, even call me back since they now know Im leaving the practice. Overall, I feel its important for a vet practice that prides themselves on being one of the best practices in town to take accountability for their errors and communicate effectively.

I brought Moose in because she had swallowed a sock and was showing signs of distress. Autumn trails wasnt my primary vet, but they were open and I had brought another pet in a year ago for a second opinion. They gave me two options for treatmenteven though one of the options would have caused me to take my pet to another ER vet because they were open 24 hours and could monitor her overnight in the event that she got worse and needed emergency surgery. They couldve told me to do anything to take care of Moose and to make sure they got my money rather than someone else, but chose my pets health over their bottom line. They called the next morning to check on Moose and again the day after even though they werent caring for her any longer. Autumn Trails is now my primary veterinarian from here on out. Ive never seen a more compassionate veterinarian office in my 40+ years of owning pets.

About
Autumn Trails Veterinary Center
When Autumn Trails Veterinary Center opened in April 2015, owners Dr. Jennifer Cardoza and Emily Gordon had one goal in mind — to create a veterinary center serving the greater Charlottesville, VA, region that offers high quality medicine and exceptional customer service. Our center combines all of the services of a traditional veterinary practice with a newer concept to veterinary medicine — urgent care. Urgent care allows you to walk in at any time between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week, and be seen by a veterinarian. You do not need to be an established client with us. We are happy to see your pet in an emergency, and then forward your records to your primary provider.
