During tax season I would spend countless weekend hours with my grandmother at Sherwood Hall Regional Library getting our taxes done through AARP. My grandmother did not believe in tax services; to her that was like, potentially, paying to pay for something, (God bless her.) In early 2017, I confessed to her that while I would still continue to wait with her as her own taxes were prepared by the fine retirees at the library, I would no longer be personally using their services. I didn't want to use a chain tax service like TurboTax and the like. I hoped for the professional intimacy of a private professional. My uncle, for many years my savvy personal financier, recommended a quick Google search to find a new tax person. Theresa Lacey was my first choice from the list, and I haven't looked back since. As a Northern Virginia resident, Theresa's home was nearby to me and easily accessible. Our initial conversations were extremely pleasant and I felt completely comfortable trusting her with my taxes and all the financial idiosyncrasies that went with them. Much of my taxes are tedious, involving several worksheets to sort out my Capital Gains and Losses - many a library volunteer complained with no little subtlety - but Theresa was undaunted from Day 1, and extremely informative when I had questions. I haven't looked back since. In 2020, as COVID was rearing its initial ugly head, Theresa transitioned to a "mail-only" situation for my tax prep for that year, and there was no difference in her speedy and informative work. I have, and continue to, recommend Theresa to others in the area, and am extremely pleased to do so.

Theresa has done my taxes for about 10 years. She has walked me through my tax journey from single, to married, to married with kids, and even owning a small business. She takes the time to explain your taxes to you in a way that is easy to understand. She pays close attention to details, is always reliable, has had all the answers to any tax question I've ever had and responds quickly to emails. Theresa is also very personable and easy to be around. She always asks how my family is and how life is going; you can tell she truly cares about her clients. I can't recommend Theresa enough and I will never go to another tax preparer!
