Perhaps some context might help.The realities of renting a venue large enough for our dancers and guests means that only certain schools are suitable. Size, quality of stage facilities and location are among the limiting factors. The period between late May and mid-June (when we have our recitals) is filled with graduations, school plays, choral performances and other events. It's only after all school uses are scheduled that outside organizations such as dance studios are considered in the scheduling process.We apply almost a year in advance and, quite frankly, are happy to get any dates within our time window at suitable schools. Keep in mind that within that same time span, in addition to Mother's Day are Memorial Day Weekend and Father's Day. Imagine the disappointment for the children if we were to say "sorry, we can't have a recital this year because the only available date is Mother's (or Father's Day)". At this past Sunday's three performances we had about 450 students and over 2000 audience members recognizing the accomplishments of young dancers who worked all season with the goal of performing in the recital. Our dedicated teachers, staff and parent volunteers worked long days on Saturday (rehearsals) and Sunday to run three performances so that each show was only 90 minutes long, minimizing disruptions to other Mother's Day events.We hope that most of our families found this to be a great family-oriented activity celebrating their dancers and the mothers, grandmothers, family and friends who gathered to share the joy of dance.
