Went here last winter to visit the Plymouth cheese shop. The cheese shop was friendly but the rest of the people in this building were the most unwelcoming people I've ever met.

In 1786, Richard and Isaac Southgate dammed the Ottauquechee River to build a sawmill and gristmill. A new dam was built by Benjamin, a grandson of Richard, in 1825. He then built a new textile mill three years later. It is unlikely these original buildings survive due to a large fire in 1852. The oldest surviving building was likely built a year later. 150 of the town's 800 residents were employed by the complex around this time. In 1909 a hydroelectric generator facility was added to the dam. The depression of the 1930's temporarily closed the complex, until it closed for good in 1975.
