They lied about fixing our car to pressure us to let them do work we didn't want and didn't ask for. (mixup with tow truck dropping car off at wrong spot). The only way to get our car back was to pay them money because it was locked in their lot. (sound familiar? My wife is the one who complained about the fraud. However, I have an update.) Since her posting, we have had another (ASE certified) mechanic fix the pump. He confirmed our suspicions that the tank had not been dropped, the tank had not been opened, and the pump had not been changed. They lied 100% about what they did and billed us for it. 100% Fraud. By allowing us to drive off the lot with a pump they KNEW was bad, They endangered the life of my family. (Common diagnosis trick for a failed fuel pump is knock on the tank to get it jogged back. This means the pump has failed and NEEDS to be replaced ASAP. Getting it going with a cheap trick or anything similar like that and letting someone drive 30 miles home on the freeway with a false sense of security is absolutely horrible. We could have stalled in a construction area with no shoulder and been hit.) We have filed a complaint with the BBB.

Short version They endangered my family's life by pretending to do a repair and fraudulently charging me for the work they didn't do. Long version They "fixed" my car without permission because it had been accidentally dropped off in front of their shop. (We broke down 30 miles from home, and a friend in the neighborhood recommended a mechanic, but google has wrong address for Chavez Brothers Auto Repair) When it was dropped off at the wrong spot, the tow truck driver mentioned the words "fuel pump" to them. When I finally tracked down where my car was a day later (the shop we contracted with had not recieved it) I found that they had locked my car in back of their lot and would not release it without payment for putting in a "Used Fuel Pump" from the pickapart like shop down the street. [No real mechanic would ever put in a used fuel pump that had sat in a car at a pickapart because of the nature of how they go bad.] If I refused, they were going to charge me parking for almost half as much as they were asking with the assumption they would have to spend two hours tearing into my car to retrieve "their" part. (overnight parking fee since it had been put into their lot???) The only other option they gave was that they Re-did the work with a new part charging even more labor for putting in a new one. (also significantly more than the shop I had contracted with) Obviously they were not to be trusted. Kids were in the other car, and we needed to get home. We paid to get it off their lot and drove it home very cautiously. (a used pump that starts the car usually won't die in the middle of a trip, but usually when you park somewhere, and can last anywhere from a day to a week to a month, you never know) We did make it home, but it died again on our next trip when we parked about a mile away from our house with the exact same issue with the fuel pump. We got it home with shenanigans. When the car was jacked up, it was super obvious their "repair" had never been . These bolts (pictured) are all bonded to the nuts and to the metal above. By the nature of the repair They would have to be broken loose to do the repair. You can look up videos online for 2005 ford focus. They either have to drop the tank or use a grinder and cut a hole in the seat above to access the pump. Neither of these were done. You can see in the picture that the nut was never turned, and that it runs through the strap holding the tank up. It is frozen in place with corrosion and rust. 0% chance they actually did the repair they charged us for. They probably just knocked it to get it to work short term. They lied about putting in a part. In doing so they put the lives of my family at risk. (They absolutely KNEW there was a bad part in it because they hadn't changed the bad part out. Car stalling on freeway is 100% life threatening). I wish I knew a good lawyer to sue them and get their licence taken away for endangering the lives of my family.
