Cast Iron Southern Grill

We ate at the Cast Iron Southern Grill while visiting family in Spring. What a treat! The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. The drinks from the bar were yummy and the food was delicious! One of us had the chicken fried steak which is homemade with lots of great crunchy crust and a tender steak. The roast veggies were good and the mashed potatoes were home style deliciousness. The gravy was peppery and creamy. The Diva salad was very good. The cream of pablano soup was a treat! Cheesy and spicy. The flat bread was also great. For a small neighborhood place, the Cast Iron Southern Grill had a decent bar with a number of really good cocktails. The summer strawberry cocktail was amazing. The mojito was good. The old fashioned was better than most. All and all I highly recommend this local bright spot on the restaurant scene.

Service was pretty good until time to pay. Everything on the menu looked good. I ordered fajita steak fries. Fries were mediocre at best and only came with about 4 bites of meat. The meat was cooked well and had good texture but no flavor. I was expecting an entree but what I got was more like a small appetizer. Sweet tea tasted very strong and bitter and looked black like coffee. Even my friend's 4 year old noted the black color. Also had some flowery notes. Husband had chicken fried burger and didnt eat it all bc he wasnt sure the chicken was cooked through. 3 people had the garlic fries and all said they had way too much garlic. Like a whole bulb. Nobody finished their food and we all said we would not pick it again.

Had a hankering for a burger so we decided to check out the Cast Iron Southern Grill for the first time. Very pleasantly surprised! Small but inviting, with a great selection of food items on the menu. I went for the burger and my wife picked out the Chicken Fried Steak. Tasty tasty stuff! The CFS apparently was one of the best she's had in a long time, and we look forward to returning.
