I'm not in any way justifying my citation but I will comment on how things are handled at this court. The process is terrible. I drove almost 5 hours to SPI on the given appearance date on the citation only to find out that the judge was not there. I was then told to write a letter to the judge of what I wanted to do about this citation. I did. Then waited almost 6 months for a response informing me that I would be placed on deferred, which is a good thing but on short notice, given a week to pay the fine. In my opinion, not reasonable. I responded back in the email stating I would like to make an appeal. The clerk; or the person that answers the phone, said if I went that route then my fine would be doubled automatically.i don't believe the judge read my letter, which is my opinion because the clerk stated, "that's what we give everyone." Also stated that I didn't even have to appear in court in the first place, that I could've just wrote a letter.-like it's just common knowledge to know that. I just don't see where the fairness or even job commitment is at in what they do.
