Dr. Shapiro was my doctor in San Marcos, TX...In 2015 he performed two total knee replacements (MyKnee Technology) for me - I had no cartilage - he also performed arthroscopic surgery on my right shoulder (shoulder had sustained trauma years earlier - torn rotator cuff)..Left knee Feb, right knee June, shoulder acted up after therapy and surgery was Oct...I am currently 73 and have had many comments on how I do not walk like I have had knee replacements.....My knees and shoulder function well....I thank God that he was my doctor for these procedures....I highly recommend Dr. Shapiro as a surgeon and wish him well ...

I am a health care provider in Austin and an elderly family member was admitted to Seton Kyle for a severe ankle fracture. Dr. Shapiro was not notified until the next day and apologized profusely for not coming in immediately. He pulled up a chair and visited with her and myself (he did not know that I am a primary care provider), encouraging questions and visiting with us.This was on a Saturday and he scheduled the surgery for the next morning. The surgery went well and on follow-up she was healing nicely. The office staff were accommodating and I had one of the most positive experiences I have had with an orthopedist. Medicare reimbursement when compared to traditional insurance, particularly on a managed care plan, is very low so his kindness was not a result of anticipating making a large sum of money from her surgery. In fact, with the elderly there are many more risks in surgery, which increases liability and you are paid less, which is the reason many health care providers will not take patients on Medicare, particularly those on managed care.
