Beyond the Rainbow Pet Hospice

For the toughest day in a pet owner's life, Beyond The Rainbow gives an invaluable experience. They were easy to reach, accommodating with scheduling, fairly priced, and Dr. Henderson provided calm, confident, and personal service for our sweet old man. He was blind with dementia and I couldn't imagine taking him to a cold office with strange smells around him. He got to cross the bridge with his mom, dad, and sister by his side, quietly in his home. This is the first time we have used a home euthanasia service and I would recommend BTR to other pet parents making the tough decision.

We recently had to say goodbye to our almost-14-year-old chocolate Lab. Our girl, Coco, hated going to the vet and I did not want to take her their on her last day of life. I found Beyond the Rainbow through the Collin County Veterinary Medical Association website. I cannot say enough about how positive this experience for us. I feel blessed, a word I do not use lightly, to have been able to provide this experience for Coco and for us. A week earlier, I took Coco to our vet, who said we could put her down that day even. It was time. Since we were committed to doing it at home, our vet encouraged me to call a home euthanasia service as soon as possible, to let them know we would be needing there services soon. I made an appointment three days ahead of time, and from the moment I made the appointment, I was counting the hours, just praying that Coco would continue to be pretty comfortable until our appointment. Dr. Heinemann was perfect and I felt so relieved when she arrived. She was kind, quiet, efficient and, most importantly, calm. After greeting Coco and talking to us for a minute, she gave Coco a sedative to relax her. It was so amazing to see the tension just ease out of her old body as the medication took affect. We held her and kissed her and cried over her, and after about 10 minutes, Dr. Heinemann said Coco was ready for the final shot and she would give it whenever we were ready. Our other dog, Jake, sat with us the whole time. After the final shot, Dr. Heinemann did an ink stamp paw print and nose print of Coco, which is by far the greatest memento of a beloved pet I have ever seen. It was so peaceful, and I felt so much better the days after than the days before. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

When our cat Margot was nearing her final days, I was terrified of losing her, and equally terrified of not ending her pain soon enough. When I discovered home hospice care was an option, I was relieved but freshly terrified that I would end up with somebody who would treat it as something routine or that something would go wrong. Dr. Henderson banished all of those worries, and gave our cat the absolute best care and attention and grace that I wanted so badly for her to have. The doctor came a day earlier than agreed upon due to Margot's condition and didn't make us feel bad for asking. Margot got to lay in the sun comfortably while the doctor expertly administered the sedative, and gave us ample time to let Margot know how much we love her, while also not letting us suffer too long watching her. And after it was over, she was so patient with me while we worked out the inevitable logistics of cremation and urn delivery. I cannot recommend Beyond the Rainbow or Dr. Henderson enough for giving anyone's pet a graceful, respectful path to their final rest as she did for us. If you read this, thank you so much once again, Dr. Henderson, from the bottom of our hearts.

Today was one of the hardest days my family has faced. Deciding to make the decision about his end of life process was something we needed to do, and quickly to avoid further pain and discomfort for our pet. Beyond the Rainbow was amazing, kind, efficient, and extremely compassionate. Losing a pet is extremely difficult and the process just seemed so overwhelming and uncomfortable which was holding us back from making a quick decision. But to have someone/service who helps make the process more comfortable for a pet and family is priceless. No stressful vet trips, no uncomfortable waiting room while my family grieves, and most of all my sweet dog was able to pass in peace surrounded with everything that has made his life comfortable. I do not have enough words to say how thankful we are for this service.
