Dr. Christopher Blewett was the ICU doctor rounding when my mom was admitted. He had the worst bedside manner and no compassion or professional determination to understand the distention of Moms abdomen which we ultimately learned was the cause of her decline to almost dying. She was admitted to ICU due to the negligence of her gynecologist, Dr. J. Kyle Mathews, and urologist, Dr. Michael Gross. Her sodium level had dropped to a 115 which caused altered mental state/loss of sensorium. A vibrant, independent, feisty 74-year-old before this experience, she could not talk or walk two days after her initial bladder lift/bladder repair procedure. When her sodium level stabilized, Dr. Blewett was anxious to discharge her to a regular floor. I was grateful for the improvement of her sodium level. However, I questioned the continued distention of her stomach. He asked who did my moms surgery and questioned why her surgeon had not come to see her and discuss her care with me. After a call to Dr. Mathews who apparently continued to minimize my moms pain and stomach distention as "procedural, Dr. Blewett returned with a different bedside manner to let me know my mom was not the sickest patient in ICU and that she needed to go to a regular floor. She was discharged to a regular floor with stomach distention and continued decline. That night, Mom had emergency exploratory surgery only to find that Dr. Gross placed her catheter through the back of her bladder, and her intestines were matted around the catheter! THERE WAS A SECOND HOLE in my moms bladder which Dr. Gross admitted fault to, Full disclosureI must have overlooked the second hole. Could we have received a bit more compassion from Dr. Blewett? His pompous, unconcerned demeanor was too much for my comfort. We returned to ICU after Moms second surgery. Dr. Blewett was rounding again. Not one time did he greet us, check on us, show compassion for our return, or even acknowledge our return. It takes seconds to be kind...to bless someone's spirit during a most undesirable and frightening time. Even as I passed him at the nurses station, he did not acknowledge my presence. Inconceivable arrogance.

Dr. Blewett, is one of the best doctors I have ever come across. I appreciate his concern for my health and his patience in taking the time to explain my lung issues with me.

Brilliant and compassionate care to our loved one. Spent an hour explaining, drawing diagrams, and developing options for our Dad's respiratory challenges. He "raised the bar" in best practices and patient teaching with articulate mannerisms, direct eye contact, and making sure family's questions. This specialist is gifted in his area of speciality in pulmonology. God sent us His best and we are gushing with deep gratitude.
