Master Changs is the best thing that has happened to our family! The entire staff is fantastic! Our kids are obsessed with Master O. Their program has given our son so much confidence. Has helped tremendously with his behavior and focus. Would highly recommend to anyone!

After having had a bad experience at a local Jiu Jitsu franchise company last yearwhere yelling, berating, publicly shaming, and sending kids to the corner were common to try to enforce compliance and discipline, I was nervous to have my daughter try another martial arts studio out. We attended a friends birthday party at Master Changs where they had the kids take part in a taekwondo lesson, and even allowed them to each break a boardwhich was so fun! All the kids enjoyed the lesson, and the Masters were so kind and patient. My daughter had been wanting to do a martial art that involved kicking and punching, rather than wrestling like in Jiu Jitsu, so I knew this was up her alley. While thinking over the opportunity to sign up for lessons with Master Changs, I took the time to ask Master Oh about his discipline techniques. Its easy for the kids to think its all fun and games during the birthday partyand with how kind and fun the Masters werebut is that how classes really are with them? I wanted to know if they used yelling and shaming in their classes to get compliance. Master Oh immediately said nohis classes very much resembled the way they were at the party, and that they dont teach in the old-school manner of martial arts with yelling. He said the kids wouldnt want to come back if they didnt enjoy being there. Such a different way of thinking from the Jiu Jitsu studio we were with before, where they told the kids to keep coming back even when they hated itand put the pressure on the parents to keep bringing the kids back even when they say they want to quit. With Master Changsthey have the philosophy of using positive feedback and encouragement to keep the kids engaged and excited about taekwondo! Master Oh wasnt just feeding me a line to get me to sign my daughter up. From everything Ive seen in our classes, he is nothing but kind, supportive, encouraging, helpful, and attentive to the needs and current abilities of each student in class. My 7 year old daughter is autistic with ADHD, and coordination and strength are not things that come easily for her. He is so helpful and kind with her in teaching her the moves, and assisting her when she still needs to build up strength or abilities to do an exercise. But hes so sly about it that the kids dont even notice when hes adding that little bit of assistance! The kids feel strong and powerful, and believe that they can do itand they will! What my child lacks in coordination and skill, she makes up for in her mental belief that she can become a great taekwondo student (with hard work and practice, of course!)and her absolute enthusiasm for martial arts and Master Oh. She constantly tells me how kind he is, along with the leadership students that assist him in classwho also provide her with encouragement and high-fives throughout class. She also loves that there are so many female students/leaders and Masters in this dojang! It gives her the confidence she needs to know that girls can be great martial artists, too. The whole atmosphere is completely different from what weve experienced before, and they even allow the parents to cheer the kids on during class (no signs telling parents to be quiet or get out of the gym)! I cant say enough good things about this dojang and Master Oh. If you are looking for a studio that uses positivity as their way of motivating their students, you cant get better than Master Changs Martial Arts.
