I was refused by Dr. Short/Schwartz after arriving 5 minutes beyond the grace period when my dog was suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. It was extremely upsetting, we begged the sweet front desk girl to convince the veterinarian but the doctor said no. Basically meant I had to take her to an urgent care which is of course 10x more expensive. I will never be returning. Terrible experience and I dont recommend this veterinary office.

We called this place after rescuing a pit bull whod been used and abused and finding out our regular vet would charge $1,000 to spay her. We are sure shes pregnant because we saw dogs tagging her. The person at Thrive told us to bring her in and theyd Do a workup and quote us to spay her. Im not sure if they thought we were lying about rescuing her or what, but they didnt quote us anything near an affordable rate. First, wed need to pay $500-600 to have a cardiology exam done since shes heartworm positive. If she was healthy enough for spaying, the cost quoted was $2,000 if shes pregnant, which we already know she is. I am thoroughly upset at the waste of time. We already told them our regular vet quoted us max $1,000 to spay and thats if she is pregnant and knowing she has heartworms! Why would Thrive even bother to set us up with an appointment only to quote us more than twice as much??? Oh, and since the vet there at Thrive mentioned they want to do a cardio workup so the dog "doesnt die in surgery" yeah, she actually said that now my daughter is having anxiety, worried this sweet dog we rescued is going to die when she gets put under to be spayed. We also spoke with them about some dental work for our cat. We were quoted $60 for a tooth extraction, which we were pleasantly surprised by, until they said, "Yeah, it should be between $570-600 for the tooth extraction." Huh??? I clarified by repeating, "So its $60 for the extraction but $600 all in?" Their response was that theyre offering a $50 coupon for February. Still, huh??? I was left clueless as to what the balance was for, if the tooth extraction is only $60. I think $150 may have been for a cleaning, but thats still a hefty jump to $570-600 all in. Ive been to Thrive in Houston years ago for my cat, and they were so helpful and affordable. I expected the same from Thrive Pearland, but I walked away feeling like I was judged and like its nothing more than a money grab. Theyre really nice, so theyll smile to your face while they quote you some stupidly outrageous amount. They tried to be nice when they came out and told us we gave the wrong answer about rescuing her. We have to say we found her on the side of the road instead of saying we rescued her from an abusive neighbor, so I guess the penalty for that is being quoted an amount I am unable to pay and this poor dog doesnt get the healthcare she needs and deserves? Oh, well, at least the vet there got to give me a good dose of judgment. Hope she slept better. The dog still needs spaying, though.
