image My 69-year old mother fell and broke her hip in April, and she completed approximately 3 weeks in Manor Park’s Skilled Nursing Rehab Unit and then transitioned into Assisted Living where she stayed for another 3 weeks.
Prior to admitting my mom to Manor Park Rehab, she completed 3 weeks of rehab at Stanton County Swing Bed Hospital (which was amazing). Once she moved to Manor Park, she really started going downhill. During the 3 weeks in rehab, she was moved to THREE different rooms, and the 3rd room was a room without a TV, where they advised we could purchase a small TV to put in her temporary room, but it would have to “sit in quarantine” for 3 days before it could go into her room. She had recurring UTIs, multiple falls, troublesome hallucinations and delusions, bouts of anxiety and many, many tears. I had to constantly call and ask the staff to charge her phone, and during one Facetime call, I noticed that some bags and boxes I had delivered were still sitting on the floor in her apartment, unpacked. I’m sure the staff is trying their best, but they seemed burnt out, overworked, and tired. When I informed the Administrator that we would be moving my mom out, there was no “why” or “how can we do better”, just a “give me a date when you will have movers and we can have you meet us at the loading dock and we will move her belongings out”.
Our expectations were not super high being that it is assisted living and not “home”, but Manor Park still managed to fall short in every way. It just never felt right, and was definitely not the right fit for my mom. I cannot speak to how they performed pre COVID-19, or how their Assisted Living meets the expectations of residents needing very little assistance, but for someone needing full assistance it was definitely not enough.
COVID-19 has put some unusual restrictions in place for facilities and it does not seem to be going away anytime soon. In order to survive the times, these facilities need to adapt and think outside of the box or isolation will end up killing more of our elderly than the coronavirus will. Manor Park so far as I have seen, is not doing a very good job of this, and I would think twice before putting my loved one here.
When there is very little competition, the “best” doesn’t have to try very hard.

image My 92 yesr old father took a fall and was hospitalized in June and he was sent here for rehab because he couldn't stand on his own or walk with out help. The doctor from the hospital insisted he be placed in a rehab due to his severe weakness. We were told he would be in over 100 days and they wouldn't allow visitors due to covid. My father needed to build up some strength and work on his balance. The rehad told my mother he was being released after two weeks because he was strong enough to go home. My mother house was under quarantine due to my sister-in-law ( a nurse) contracting covid19 from work but they insisted he go home and that he was strong enough. My mother explained that the home was under quarantine due to covid 19 and they said it would cost her $340.00 per day if he stayed. My mother had someone from the health department on the call so they then lowered the price to $105 per day if he stays I would add my parents have insurance and additional insurancr policies to cover them. My father stayed 7 extra days and still went home to a quarentined home. My mother was very worried about bringing a weakened 92 year old, cancer survivor home. They should be ashamed of themselves for forcing him to go into those conditions especially because he was still unable to walk on his own. When they brought him home my mother who wasn't allowed to see him the whole time he was gone due to covid 19 was shocked to see how weak he still was and had to go inside to grab the sit down walker so she could roll him in the house. She said he coildn't take two steps without starting to fall over. The whole time my father was in that place the care he recieved was not great either. My parents were considering going into this home to live after selling their home but that will not happen. This place was horrible he went in weak and came out just as weak but they got the money from the insurence company with no benefit to my father.
