I retained Melissa on November 30, 2021, to represent me in a divorce. At that time, I paid her a retainer of $4,000. In March 2022, she terminated our attorney-client relationship because of difficulties in communicating with each other. At that time, she promised to return my entire retainer. However, she did not return any of my money or provide any accounting for her work until after I sent her a demand letter in January 2023. And she kept over $3,000 for doing very little work on my case. I feel like Melissa was biased against me as a male client, and I found her to be inappropriate, hostile, and disrespectful. Because of her unprofessional handling of my case, I was forced to retain another attorney and pay another $4,000 retainer.

Total waste of my money! Did not explain to me what was going on when I asked bc I like to be informed of what she is doing to earn the money that you pay up front to her instead of paying for their performance such as what the got for you in the divorce. She will not admit when she is proven wrong as she argued about the way my spousal support was to be paid and the amount that I get. In her speech to me on why shes e was quitting she said that I never told them what my issues were with the way she drew up the orders that supposedly took so long to send to me bc she had to review before sending to me. The very first parts was totally wrong and I knew it was bc they stressed to me that it had to reflect exactly what was set out that day for spousal support. Said we could not change a thing. But when I proved her mistake she said well dont you want that amount ? Meaning the $200 she was incorrect about so how could she get that amount for me. Wasnt that just a bad attempt at covering her mistake that could not have been more obvious!!! That blew my mind!!! Did not tell me my options on any subject regarding the divorce. I had told her I would be homeless from time of closing on house and when we received funds from the house bc she said she was going to hold it until divorce is final. She walked in to court the other day and then came to me saying Chris attorney wanted ti know if Im ok with splitting house money as soon as it closes and not wait until final divorce. I said good lord and you didnt tell me that was an option after I told you my situation. And she said well she didnt have a copy of contract so she couldnt tell me. The contract between buyer snd seller does not say anything about divorce or splitting funds by seller so no that wasnt the problem with you coming up with that yourself when I asked to help relieve some stress

When I first met with Melissa about a year and a half ago, I was discouraged, defeated, and had lost all hope in the family court system. My tumultuous coparenting situation of the previous 6 years had been a conglomeration of unresolved messes that spanned the course of something like 12 notebooks and 3 boxes. She and Staci, her legal assistant, actually read the emails, texts, erroneous court orders - and remembered them. They were truly invested in us, knowing this was not going to be a quick fix or a one-time court appearance. For the first time, I had an attorney that could see through the mess and was willing to fight for the truth to be revealed in court. Melissa is respectful, fair, honest, compassionate, speaks truth with tough love, and fights with integrity. Unfortunately, my battles are not yet over, but I find hope in knowing that she and her team are on our side, and I am confident that she will see this through to resolution.
