If I could rate with 0 stars, I would. This is the absolute worst office I have ever been to for any kind of service, not just optometry. I have double eye insurance, so ideally, my contacts and glasses should both be covered by insurance with minimum copay. In February, I scheduled my first appointment and went in for my exam. I was fitted with some contact lenses but the lenses didn't work well for my eyes. I called back for another appointment in May, just a few days shy of 3 months from my first appointment, to follow-up on my lenses and possibly switch out brands. I was informed that I had 3 months from my exam to schedule a follow-up and because I missed that 3 month mark, I would be required to pay for another exam. At the time, I wasn't very knowledgeable and just said okay, and provided my second insurance information. At my second exam in 3 months, I wanted to purchase glasses. My goal for that appointment was to purchase glasses and find a brand of contacts that worked well with my eyes. I decided which insurance I wanted to use with contacts and which I wanted to use with glasses, and compared my allowance to the cost of the frames. The frames I picked out were $140 and my allowance was $150, so I wasn't expecting much of an out-of-pocket payment. When we got to the end of the visit, I was informed that the lenses for my glasses would be $100. I advised them that was out of my budget, and I was unable to pay that amount. They said they would hold onto my selection in case I changed my mind. Fast forward to today: I called to check the pricing on the contact lenses and glasses with the intent to purchase through Atasca Eye Center. Gabby told me that the lenses I was fit in back in May would be about $210 for a 3-month supply. I'm a single mom of two, I don't have that kind of money to spend on just 3-months worth of contacts. I asked if there was a cheaper brand of contacts I could go with and she advised me that I would have to come in for a follow-up. No problem, I understand. I told her I'd like to go ahead and get that scheduled for as soon as possible, as I'm going without contacts for the time being. I also work M-F, 8-4 but I didn't see that being an issue as they're open until 6 and have Saturday appointments. Gabby told me that the next available appointment that would fit with my schedule would be after the 3-month period is up and I'd have to pay for another exam out-of-pocket. I am NOT having 3 eye exams in 6 months. There's absolutely no reason for it other than greed and trying to over-charge patients for unnecessary services. I logged onto my insurances websites to cross-reference my benefits while on the phone with Atasca Eye Center and nowhere listed is a timeframe for the follow-up with either of my insurances. So I ask Gabby who requires that timeframe, because it's clearly not listed on my benefits information. She informs me that Atasca Eye Center requires the 3-month period. I inquire as to the $100 glasses lenses fee I was quoted before, and she tells me it's for the add-ons. So they added on these features that I didn't ask for, in fact, I requested the basic, standard single vision lenses and they completely disregarded my request. When confronted with all of my issues regarding their office, Gabby proceeded to raise her voice and use a tone that was nothing less than completely condescending, sarcastic, and rude. I've just got off the phone with both of my insurance companies and I've filed formal complaints with both. I'm requesting they follow-up and educate this cold, callous office. I'm also now in the process of filing a formal complaint with the Texas Optometry Board, as well as the American Academy of Ophthalmology. At this point I've lost all respect and use for this office. I will never recommend them to another person, in fact, I'll recommend them AGAINST Atasca Eye Center. Go to Eye Trends, Berkeley Eye Center, or Target Optical instead, they won't rob you blind and try and play it off as if it's your fault for their greed.
