As a former teacher in both public and private schools, I can say that The Imani School teachers and staff are invested in their students and genuinely care about their academic and personal success. It is a private school with reasonably priced tuition. Character development is a part of the education the children receive. Several staff members have been employed there for upwards of 20 years and they remain dedicated. Imani students consistently score in the top tier on standardized tests, and many graduate and attend the most prestigious and rigorous high schools in Houston. When the school moved to all virtual learning in the spring because of Covid, teachers stepped up and did what was needed for their students to thrive, and they did it with professionalism and a positive attitude, although it wasn't easy. Leaders and confident thinkers are nurtured at Imani, and all students are encouraged to rise to the academic challenges. I think parents are typically very pleased with their child's education at Imani, and the students seem to love it.

As a grandparent of two children presently at Imani , I would like to address the comments by the "Angry Women " Jess H . below. It would take up too much SPACE to address them all, but let me address her comment " Where does all the money go ". Through the leadership of Mrs . Williams , the school has MANAGED to survive as countless other Black Christian Schools in the Houston area have FOLDED one by one as they were SADLY unable to survive financially. She strives to keep the tuition affordable because she truly cares about the black child. Educating OUR children IS HER passion. Most , if not all, of the Christian schools in The area ARE affiliated with a Church that helps to support the school. The Imani School receives NOT A DIME from ANY Church . As a matter of FACT, the Facility Where the End of School Play is held charges thousands . Last year it was to the tune of $approximately $16,000 for one night of performance and one afternoon of practice time. So, to "Miss Angry Parent " below , that's where your money went for that event . Let me say, on a personal note, that I have an older grandson who goes to a Christian High School where the tuition is $30,000 a YEAR. They TOO have Fundraisers and the FAMILIES give generously because THOSE PEOPLE of the PREDOMINANTLY NON BLACK persuasion Understand THE COST OF a GOOD Private Education. MY oldest grandchild unfortunately did not have the IMANI EXPERIENCE. I remember the day in third grade where her little white classmate said, "come to my house and I maybe can make your hair straight and PRETTY LIKE MINE! ". I cried that day. In CONTRAST , my eight year old granddaughter who is at Imani now loves her NATURAL tightly coiled HAIR ! What truly INFURIATES me as an Older Black Women is our CONSTANT need to seek to DESTROY one another ! Will it EVER end? I have WATCHED it through my MANY years on this earth. We LOOK for something BAD TO SAY about each other. . Other Races CELEBRATE and UPLIFT and if they have a PROBLEM they don't SHARE IT WITH the WORLD ! The confidence these children get, the pride they feel in being an African American is SECOND TO NONE, and you CAN't get that ANYWHERE else in this AREA. Good luck to "Jess H " as she finds another institution who will care for her daughters and make them PROUD TO BE BLACK and celebrate their skin color. Good luck in finding a school where upon graduation they will be ADVANCED enough to go ANYWHERE in the city... to St. John's , Strake Jesuit , Episcopal and other prestigious [ EXPENSIVE] schools where they are PREPARED to NOT ONLY COMPETE, BUT to EXCEL. And, for EVERYONE's information, NO school is perfect , not even that $30, 000 a year one . Maybe some one person won't WEAR those tight black pants or HAVE that red hair Jess H spoke of ( how petty can you get) , but believe that politics and racism abound along with the fact that they really won't truly care about your Little Black Child like Mrs Williams and her WONDERFUL, truly DEDICATED teachers DO !! Peace Be With You !

I have been at The Imani School for a little over 4 years and I have two kids there. Other than The Imani School, I have not seen nor heard of a school, in the Houston area, that can give my BLACK children, what they need to be successful in the world today. Every school has issues. A lot of issues tend to stem from lack of funds. This school is not backed by a church or other sponsoring institutions, it has to fundraise to remain afloat. My kids love their school and they thrive there. The students who graduate from Imani can stand next to any other student at any other school and hold their own. The last months of this school year, the Imani teachers worked extremely hard to give the students the same academic rigor they experienced in the classroom, all while being watched by anyone who had access to the live classrooms. The teachers still excelled in academics virtually and didn't fall short with discipline either because my kids tried them and were quickly checked (I welcome that)! This school is absolutely a family, and when you have problems within a family you work it out with family, and not expose their flaws to a world of judgers (who already hate us). I stand with Imani!

The Infants and Toddler program is housed inside the Imani School with separate Infant, Toddler I and Toddler II classrooms. Pre-K and up requires uniforms from mandated uniform company. Pre-K girls wear smock/dress and Peter Pan shirts, boys wear embroidered polos and pants. No State STAAR testing required like public schools. The Standford 10 testing system is given to students to measure educational targets. School has board members and huge donation efforts semi annually. I have full confidence this school is exactly what it should be, I visited many schools and this felt like home.
