Heritage Muay Thai is a top caliber gym, period. Kru Corley is a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I appreciated being able to learn from him and the others at the gym. More importantly, I am grateful he and his gym welcomed me, even as a visitor, and included. Anyone in Houston should check Heritage out!

Super high level. As a martial artist one of your duties is to spread the art, and all I can say is that I am grateful for the things coach Corley does for the fighters and members of this gym.

As if they're aren't enough 5 star reviews
Coach Corley owns a brain which contains a bonanza of knowledge and wisdom that can only be gotten through hard earned experience. Every week has a different emphasis, whether it's entries, tactics, strategies, counters, timings, angles, techniques etc and he makes it very easy to understand. Despite what others may believe, I am convinced he is a rather simple guy, but who just happens to be a true master in Muay Thai. He's not arrogant about it and shares knowledge that is suitable for the student and situation.
Sparring classes are safe because anybody exhibiting dangerous behavior (point knees, bad etiquette bulldozing partner off of mat and continuing, other non-educational behavior) results in swift and immediate punishment for the entire class, no questions asked. Any amount of groveling, begging, whining, or of the ilk will just result in more punishment in the form of push ups, ab exercises, or something of equal or greater volumes of inhumanity.
Students are kind to each other and the atmosphere is respectful, it's conducive to learning. That being said, this is a sport school and there is real possibility of injury, which is why I appreciate the friendly culture. People really don't want you to get hurt because they have been hurt before. I would sometimes ask questions of other students, and I've always been generally serviced with answers full of knowledge.
Kind of on the flip side, the competitors here mean serious business. Very athletic and skilled individuals through the highly intelligent training. The school is likely the best in Houston, and Texas, and is probably one of the if not the best in the country. The classes are very technical. Emphasis is places on performing techniques correctly and not on power when training together. This results in players who are prepared for a variety of situations and have a variety of answers to whatever they encounter in the ring.
For power training, there is pads class. If going all out and then some is your cup of tea, this is a great class to get a preview of what Dante's inferno poem is talking about. This class prepares you for a life and death struggle in the ring by taking you to your cardio's limit and then some, fun times.
The MMA coach is former highly ranked MMA competitor, sensei Yves Edwards. This class is grapple based. Technique is taught several times until all students are able to understand. Techniques include chokes, take downs, arm bars, other joint submissions, counters, etc. Students practice on each other as sensei goes around the gym making sure everyone has got it correctly. This practice is followed by 2 to 3 rounds sparring.
Coming to this gym, I felt myself improving week after week. And looking back the past 2 years, I realized I'd learned so much. There is still so much to learn and improve. Continue training, improve every day. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to study in such a great school with great teacher and great students.
