DermSurgery Associates – Wild Indigo

Dr. Debra Chernosky does great work and has excellent bedside manner skills.I am dissatisfied with her office staff and the billing practices her office employs. Dr. Chernosky sends out pathology to the Cockerell Dermatophatology lab in Dallas Texas (dermpath.com) which for most insurance companies is an out-of-network facility.During my visit, I made it very clear that I wanted my sample to be sent to an In-Network lab so that I pay in-network fees. I am insured with large insurance and they have plenty of labs here in Houston that do specialized dermatology pathology work. Dr. Chernosky and her office still sent my sample to the out of network lab.A month later I got a surprise bill in the mail from Cockerbell Dermatopathology for a large amount that would otherwise have been covered or no more than $20 if Dr. Chernosky had used an in-network lab.I liked her as a dermatologist but I will not be going back simply because of the billing practices they use. I will not recommend her to my colleagues and family although I think she has great medical skills.FYI: There are laws that protect you as a consumer against balance billing/surprise billing practices (tdi.texas.gov/tips/texas…). Fight these bills and don't support practices that intentionally do this.

Medicare patients beware! The receptionist took my Medicare and secondary insurance cards and didn't mention that I had to pay up front. Upon leaving, I purchased (foolishly) a $34 bottle of sunscreen protection. When I handed over my credit card I was presented with a 204.00 charge and was told that Dr. Chernosky accepts Medicare but the patient has to pay and then wait to be reimbursed by Medicare. Needless to say, I will not go back to her clinic. I've been on Medicare for 10 years and have never had to pay upfront. Her practice should require notification upfront - not after the patient has seen her. Her approach is deceptive.

The best dermatologist I have ever had! I recommend her to all my friends. I struggled with mild acne for years, even into my early 20's and she has been the only dermatologist who finally gave me clear skin! Not to mention she is one of the nicest and most professional doctors I've ever met.

I visited Dr Chernosky yesterday for the first time. She came highly recommended due to her outstanding knowledge and professionalism. I was late for my appointment(due to Hurricane Harvey post traffic issues)but called ahead to apologize and be sure I could still keep my appointment. The staff were extremely polite and appreciative that I called ahead. The office is easy to find with ample parking. No waiting, once again polite, attentive staff. I was taken back to the exam room and Dr C came in minutes after. She performed the exam with so much detail and knowledge explaining everything as she went along. I highly recommend this office to anyone seeking professional, knowledgeable and a efficient Doctor and staff.
