A lot nicer than the Arizona humane society. I was surprised to see very little of the small dogs. We are happy with who we brought home

I adopted a cat from Houston Humane Society on February 11th and she is incredibly sweet. I brought her back in for her 72 hour check up on the 14th and mentioned a weird coughing noise the cat had been making. I was advised that she was fine and it may be a respiratory infection or a reaction to her new environment. I still hear the noise, but I trust the professionals and bring her back on March 2nd where they do xrays and basically tell me that my cat needs surgery or she will die. Of course I am unbelievably upset to hear this. They offer me 3 options: surrender her, get her surgery done (at no charge since it was "their fault") at their offices with a 50/50 chance of her survival, or monitor her at home which could give her up to a year of life. I get the surgery for her on March 7th. I leave work early just for them to tell me that they did not find anything operable in her body. I am advised that I can again, monitor her at home, or be referred to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, which I was told by the vet, "is expensive." I am frustrated with the way this has played out. I understand that adopting a pet comes with veterinary costs, but I did not expect these costs to happen so soon. I love my cat and it tears me up to hear her continue to make these coughing noises in the middle of the night. If all the proper tests were ran on her before adoption, and not after I paid the adoption fee and drove the 20 minutes to and 20 minutes from the facilities, this situation would not be occurring. I am frustrated with Houston Humane Society and I wish they would make this right.
