Specialty Food Services delivers the food for my Mom's Assisted Facility. They bring it via truck from Houston to Louisiana. It is the worst institutional style food I have ever seen. The presentation, quality and quantity are awful. The meat is like a hockey puck, the portions are ever shrinking, the food is sometimes burned, and the meal combinations are strange.
Mom's Assisted living is around $4000 a month, so it's not low end. The residents are so depressed by the meals, it is really sad. Meal times are a big social event, and the food presently offered throws a pall on what should be an enriching time for the residents.
I understand that the meals can be influenced by what the "cooks" choose to order from Specialty Food Services. But, Mom's facility is owned by the same family as Specialty Food Services, so one would think they would make a true effort to have top notch meal service.
