    Is this a dentist, or a used car lot? Dr. Ahmad was a fine dentist in the short time we interacted, but the rest of the experience was insulting and unprofessional. I've never walked out of a dentist's office until today. They did the usual first-time-visit stuff (x-rays, examination, photos, etc.), and Dr. Ahmad went over some basics of my oral hygiene. He then left the room, and sent in someone from billing to go over an extensive treatment plan that included multiple applications of a cleaning procedure most insurance companies (including mine) don't really cover or consider necessary. I had to tell the billing person several times that I just wanted the conventional cleaning, and not the pricey addition. She kept asking if it was just a matter of money. I kept saying no, it's also a matter of the dentist himself telling me my situation doesn't urgently call for that kind of work. She kept persisting that it was necessary for my long-term health. A billing representative or office manager is NOT A DENTAL PRACTITIONER. She is in no way qualified to determine what my teeth need, or to offer medical or dental advice of any kind. Each of the several times I told her I just wanted the conventional prophy cleaning, she would offer something along the lines of "Well, if you don't get this other treatment right now, you'll regret it later." Again, she is not qualified to make that judgment, and it's in direct contradiction to the dentist's assessment and my own chart. Does the dentist know his business-end staff apply these sales tactics to his patients? Probably so. It became clear that this woman's job was to upsell me on procedures that I didn't objectively need and that my dental insurance would not cover or consider necessary. She kept up the pressure, and wasn't interested in discussing alternatives. She acted like she was on commission to sell me on these extra procedures. She didn't want to listen to me as the patient. I walked out, and I won't be back. A dental office's primary concern should be the health of its patients - not relentlessly fleecing them with dodgy medical procedures costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars out-of-pocket. A dentist's office should also coach its support staff to listen to patients, and craft a treatment plan that works for them rather than for the office's bottom line. If you treat me like a rube or a cash machine, and not like a patient in need of dental care, then I won't be back.
