On the Ron Coleman Trail via Transmountain Highway. I arrived a little later than I should have if I wanted to get at least to Mammoth Rock. I really wanted to get to the top of South Franklin Mountain, next time. Beautiful views nonetheless. Along the Ron Coleman Trail across the Transmountain Highway. I arrived a little later than I should have if I wanted to reach at least the mammoth stone. I was looking forward to getting to the top of South Franklin Mountain next time.

Really cool trail! The path gets slightly rocky about half a mile in, my 7 year old struggled a little, but not much. He was definitely able to manage on his own. I will be taking him back for sure. We had so much fun! We did not finish the trail though. We got about half way to Mammoth Rock and it got dark so we turned around. We were walking for about 45 minutes. But remember i also had a 7 year old walking with me, which is why we were moving slowly. Parking: Huge trailhead parking area. Free parking although you should definitely pay for the day pass in case a park ranger comes by so that you dont get a ticket. Fees: Its $5 per day for a day pass as this is still owned by Franklin Mountains State Park. But there is a QR code you can scan and pay online. Or drop cash in the envelope. Restrooms: No restrooms here.

Google Maps and Google Earth no longer show this Trail correctly because TPWD have closed the trail through the valley because of erosion. The new Trail turns right almost immediately from the parking lot and switch backs up the east slope of the mountain to the West. DO NOT FOLLOW THE TRAIL AS MARKED ON GOOGLE MAPS!
