I've used coinstar in the Phoenix, AZ metro area where I used to live for many years.
If you select cash option they take out a percentage, therefore I've almost always used the electronic gift card because that way you get the complete amount. Usually Starbucks and sometimes Lowe's. Although they have a good variety of stores to select from.
I've always had a good experience.
After having a coffee can full, I finally decided to go get them counted. Went to this coinstar and just a handful of coins in the machine got stuck.
An employee had to come and open it to get it unstuck, however it didn't continue after that it just printed cash option for what had gone in. They couldn't change it since it had already printed.
Bottom line, not worth it if the machine gets stuck.
It's a good option for those of us that save up our change for gift card, but not if the machine messes up.
One thing to point out, there are two machines, so next time I'll try the other one to see if it is better. I'll update this if that's the case.
