I am a former foster kid who was sent to this facility 2-3 different times due to my behavior in foster homes. I was definitely an unruly child, I didn't listen and didn't care. The people there at safe, caseworkers, staff, therapists, the school division, were very kind and honestly the best people I've ever dealt with in foster care. They gently tried to help me do better, give me good advice, and get me out of the street lifestyle I was so used too. They did everything they could for me, and now being 19, looking back on what they did for me and how they did it when I was 15-16, they have made a huge impact on my life. It's been 2 years since I was released from foster care and I still think about them and call from time to time. They gave me chance after chance for me to succeed with them, however I was a known runner and had bad behavior all together, but y'know what? One of my biggest regrets was running from that facility the last time I was there, I should've listened to staff and my caseworker. I was 16 and I believe it was my 3rd year in 9th grade at the time, the school division stuck their necks out to help me time after time and helped me earn a credit, and shortly after I ran with some boy I thought I was in love with. They tried to tell me I was too young and to back up out of that situation because they don't condone that in the shelter, I didn't listen. It always had to be "my way or the highway" and even tho I was an immature abused teen, looking back at it now I still use the advice I was given by them in my everyday life. I am so grateful to of had them, they taught me a lot. I'm 19, engaged, and I have a baby on the way. Calling them and telling them I finally escaped my childish mindset, the streets, abuse, drugs, etc and hearing them say how proud of me they are and that they knew I could do it made my whole month. Thank you so much to the SAFE team, y'all are forever in my hearts, thank you for doing anything and everything you could for me at the time
