    The free monthly talks are, almost to a person, by speakers who either are writing about some activist cause, or dropping smug political quips, leaving the impression that to get along or get ahead as a writer these days it would be greatly to your advantage to be espousing, or even writing things germinated from the latest liberal point of view.

    I learned about WLT before I even moved to Austin. Over the last several years I’ve seen firsthand the amazing impact their programs and services have had on the Austin writing community. The Third Thursday’s I’ve been to have been engaging and thought provoking. I felt part of the group from the beginning, which was a nice feeling as a new Austinite. Their memoir writing class helped me organize my thoughts so I could outline my story and understand the best structure for my project.

From instructional classes to panel discussions to literary readings, everything about the atmosphere of a WLT event feels special. I've worked with the executive director and program director on numerous occasions, and can't say enough about what a great community of writers they've fostered, and what a professional operation they run.     I am a huge fan of the WLT! I've had the opportunity to teach classes for the organization and really appreciate all the support I've received from the ED and the WLT staff. My students have been incredible, and I am consistently impressed with their talent. The online courses are a great option for those living outside of Austin, and the annual Agents and Editors conference is amazing--it's the place where I met my agent and have connected with many editors. Love what the WLT offers the Austin--and Texas--literary community.
