Jerry's Artarama Retail Stores - Austin

Well, it was a 3 star, but then Johhny 'helped'. This may be Texas, but I didn't feel like a total 'bother' as an artist until I shopped here. I drove over two hours from the other side of Kerrville, TX for art supplies. Could not be much more disappointed. The answer to almost everything was 'we don't have it'. No suggestions on who might or where I could find the oil pastel supplies except MAYBE online. Why is there a brick and mortar Jerry's Artarama?? I will avoid them in the future.

great selection! Ty was very welcoming & directed me where I needed to go (today I needed posca markers, nice mechanical pencil, sketchbook, and precise erasers ) also ~ make sure to sign up for their VIP to get 10% off everything

Just meh. Out of stock on so much stuff. The store is rather messy and appears disorganized. Brushes are not sorted. There were empty paint cartons and I had to dig back behind them to find more. Staff were very friendly though. Update: something weird going on with the paint. They are discontinuing grumbacher and Daniel Smith. And Lukas Berlin is all crammed into a small space on the end of an aisle. One staff person practically stalked me on a recent visit. Maybe he was trying for the tip.

I like the store but I object to the numerous signs asking the customers to tip the employees. This is a retail store and we are in a market that is strong for employees. I do not wish to subsidize this company if they are refusing to pay employees a living wage. Also, those employees could find a good paying job elsewhere in this market in no time. No need to hit up the customers who are already paying a lot for art supplies.
