We decided to use a CPA this year to clear up some confusion when we ran into the issue of owing money last year. She reviewed my last years return and confirmed I had not done anything wrong; and after getting back this year's, it was further confirmation as I owe even more :-/ Gotta love taxes (said no one). She was very easy to work with, very friendly, and got it done quickly and on time. Comparing the online process to an in-person process, there does seem to be a lot more steps to take- setting up online accounts for both my wife and I, scanning and uploading all of our paperwork, a lot of back and forth over chat answering questions, etc. Additionally you need a pin # from the IRS, so we had to set up accounts on the IRS website as well, which is a whole separate process, but that would had to have been done regardless where we went I think. Even though an in-person meeting requires you to physically go in, there seems to be less time involved overall. If doing it online is definitely your thing, Priscilla is the way to go. Using a CPA is a good confirmation that you're not missing anything, it's getting done correctly, and you're saving the most money possible. I also appreciate the up front costs.
