There are some amazing people here. The pastor has a stronghold on the congregation in a way that defeats the sainthood of the believer. When studying John, the Sunday school teacher make a comment I disagreed with and happened to ask me "what do you think?" I pointed out what I saw as a logical problem with the interpretation being presented. He agreed that there was a contradiction and asked the pastor about it for clarification. I was called to meet with the Sunday school teacher and pastor. I presumed this would be to explain theologically why we might be wrong about the contradiction. Instead, I was simply told that I must believe in the interpretation as presented regardless of the contradiction. I told him that if I hadn't been directly asked, I never would have discussed it. He then instructed that I would have to not only adopt the contradictory position but that I would need to declare to others openly that I had adopted the interpretation. I told him I didn't think I should be asked to lie to people by a pastor and asked if he would at least explain the contradiction so I might be able to see it as he was asking me to. He shocked me by saying that wasn't an option. I had to simply accept what he said regardless of any clear contradictions with anything else including other scripture. If I couldn't do that, I had to leave. So, I'm gone. It is very sad to me that a church with so many great people and in an amazing location to reach Austin, is dying on the vine in a place and time when they should be flourishing. It is sad that a great congregation is strangled by an in-mature pastor who thinks otherwise of himself.
