I scheduled a haircut and a root touch up on my highlights with Mallory & I had received the opposite of what I had asked for. For reference I have ethnic black hair & two blonde highlights. I had about an inch of growth & I had asked Mallory to bring the blonde up. She agreed & asked if I would like to darken the black parts of my hair, cover some grays & tone my existing highlights. I agreed & she proceeded the appointment. I did not feel comfortable in her salon because within the first half hour of me being in her chair she mentioned that she lived in Wylie. When I told her what a great area that is she proceeded to share her negative opinions about her Hispanic neighbors referring to them as lazy Mexicans. She followed that by saying she is not racist & she cannot be racist because her husband is Black. I am not a white person & neither were her two clients that had left as I came in. I was uncomfortable that she had steered the conversation towards race so flippantly to not only a stranger but a client. After my hair had processed she rinsed my hair. When I had previously done my highlights (not by Mallory) my stylist had started with the dark parts of my hair & followed it with bleach. I did not question Mallorys process until I realized she had gotten my blonde highlights wet & my previous stylist never bleached my hair wet. I asked her when she would be applying the bleach & she seemed confused & told me she didnt know I wanted bleach. I had explained to her that in my messages I had scheduled a root touch up & in her chair I had asked her to pull up my blonde highlights & even told her Im sorry for saying I only had an inch of growth when I have a little more than that. I do not know where the miscommunication happened. Mallory informed me that she had applied permanent black dye to my roots that I had wanted bleached & it would take a great amount of effort to fix it but she would try & if she couldnt she would paint it black again. I was frustrated that I left her salon with the opposite of what I had asked for & she wasnt even sure if it could be fixed. I had paid Mallory $162 for a haircut & darker roots than what I came with. When she asked me if I liked my hair I told her I was happy with my haircut but not my roots. She made me another appointment & I felt pressured to pay. I did not see an option to not tip & in my panic I chose the smallest amount at 15%. In total I paid Mallory $186.30. I come from a single income household with three children & for us that is a lot of money. I messaged Mallory & I had asked for a partial refund so that I could fix her mistake. A root touch up is supposed to be a quick & inexpensive appointment but now I would be forced to pay more than double to fix her mistake. I told her I was happy to pay for the haircut but not the root touch up. She originally agreed but very shortly after told me she would only give me half back. Because it was a miscommunication & I loved my hair. I again explained that because of her mistake I cannot bleach my highlights the way I wanted them because of the damage she created to my hair. She ended up refunding me $70 & I paid $116.30 for a haircut & permanently dark roots that I wanted blonde.
