**Zero Stars** Recently, I had a very sweet, young dog show up at my work in Tullahoma, TN. He had a collar on with a rabies tag only. Because I have been in the veterinary industry for nearly 20 years, was an executive director, and am a CVPM. I knew how to look up a rabies tag to see which clinic the tag was issued to from the state. I very much know all of the rules and regulations, federal and local. I called this hospital and did not ask for any personal information of the pet owner. I only asked that they call the owner and tell them where the dog was located. She told me no. I explained myself again that I was not wanting their information for myself. I know that there is a search field in all Practice Management Systems for a rabies tag number so all that needed to happen is to search the number, pick up the phone and call the pet owner. I was willing to hold onto him until the owner came to my place of business to pick him up. She again said no and would not look up the owner's information. I ended up having to take the lost baby to the animal shelter when it could have been as simple as a phone call. I wouldn't say this was only unprofessional, but also inconsiderate. There are no laws about a clinic calling the owner of a lost pet- in fact it is encouraged, and in my opinion, a part of their responsibility. As an animal care facility, they SHOULD call the owner and do their due diligence to get the pet back to THEIR CLIENT who trusts them to take care of their pet. I do consulting for several hospitals in TN and am a pet owner as well. I will not be recommending this hospital to anyone knowing that they will not help a pet that is under their care or the client who trusts them.
