Stayed in Lap of Luxury 7/18-7/25. The road up to the cabin was very scary for most of us flatlanders from Michigan. Really wish we had been told about that as every driver in our group was leary of driving it after dark & in the rain. It was barely 1 lane in some spots with only a couple of pull offs if someone came from the opposite direction. Sheer drops in areas with no paved or even gravel side of the road. And blind spots where you couldnt see over the hill if someone was coming. Then the cabin....the steps down to the cabin from parking area were old railroad ties & gravel. Very uneven, no rails & the gravel was slippery when it rained. Also the motion light under the porch blinked on & off at will & barely stayed on 5 sec at a time; so we had to use our phone flashlights to see to walk down the steps to the cabin. Inconvenient & dangerous when carrying our sleeping little ones in at night. A cabin which had beds for 18, only had seating in the living/ dining area for 12; unless some people sat outside to eat or we did shifts. No cabinet space to store our groceries meant everything sat on cabinet tops & in bags on the floor. There was a leak under kitchen sink the 1st day & we welcomed repairman #1. The 2nd day a pipe came apart behind the lower level bathtub & flooded a bedroom. Another repairman. The 3rd day we had to call for a new handle for the upstairs shower. Repairman came, said he had to go to the hardware store for a new faucet, then never came back. 4th day tried to give one of the children a bath downstairs & the tub wouldn't hold water. Didnt bother to call for that one. . The main floor shower had mold/mildew in it, floors were dirty( should have seen the bottom of the littles feet);all bed covers looked very old & worn; although the sheets & towels were clean. All decks needed to be power washed & stained ;& deck chairs also. Lastly, the washer wasn't cycling correctly & kept going to E4 & stopping. Someone had to stay downstairs while laundry was going to keep restarting the washer. Loved our stay in the woods; just wish the cabin had been more 'Lap of Luxury " instead it was rustic, well used retreat. And very overpriced considering all the problems. If we decide to go to the Smokies again; we will be much more discerning & investigate much further before deciding where to stay.
