What can I say? Waffle House is that friend we aren't proud to say we know. They're the friend that's a little too loud and a little too friendly. We quietly ignore them in a crowd until you really need them. We are as ashamed of knowing them as we are of how we treat them around others. We pretend that "better" places like iHop are what we really like, but we all know when you need a friendly smile and a hot cup of coffee on the table to soothe your aching head, Waffle House is where we crawl back. This location is no different. Jet lagged and unable to sleep, I crawled back to the only friend open at o'dark thirty. The wait staff here was great, warm and inviting like I came in everyday. The food was comforting and quick and the coffee was perfect. This place was perfect and I'll proudly say it was some of the best food I ate in Oak Ridge.

Believe it or not, this was my first ever Waffle House experience, and it did not disappoint! April and the friendly staff greeted me kindly and made small talk throughout my stay. The chicken hash brown melt was perfectly crispy and melty. I also had a chocolate chip waffle (had to, being a Waffle House). I'll be in Oak Ridge for a few days and hope to be back. They are open 24 hours a day, and as the young behind the grill said, "if it ain't open there is a problem." They even gave me a hat for first timers (and babies). I am a happy man.

Last time (a while ago) we were here it was not busy, at all, only one or two other tables with people eating. We went in and sat down and the waitress said shed be right with us. She attended other people and then we waited. And waited. And waited. Then we left. She was too busy counting out slips of paper to take our order apparently - so we left. Im not sure she even saw us leave.
So today we try Oak Ridge again. I ordered scrambled eggs and sausage and husband ordered ham/cheese omelette with hash browns. Everything was COLD except the omelette. I set my food at the edge of the table but she never came back.
When we first moved here (20 months ago) we went here pretty regularly and it was good but after repeated issues the last several times, we started going to any other location and have consistently had a better experience - the food is hot and service is genuinely friendly. Its a shame because theyre only 5 minutes from us but its worth a few minutes more for hot food and good service..
Also, husband used bathroom and said it was filthy and gross.
