My mother was going to Dr. Houston at St. Thomas in Nashville for years. The drive was getting hard for my mother so we asked Dr. Houston to recommend someone in Murfreesboro which turned out to be Dr. Steven Payne. That was over 30 years ago & what a great recommendation that turned out to be.
Dr. Payne is such a compassionate, friendly & considerate person. Treated my mother ever so good. He listens & does not rush to get you out without discussing & explaining things to you. I would highly recommend his services to anyone.

I hate to have to write this review but I feel people need to know. I wish I had known before taking my parents to him. Dr. Payne seems to not have the empathy to be a good doctor. He's course and rude, with no bedside manner whatsoever. The first time I took my dad there, he completely ignored me, didn't introduce himself or look at me, which was a red flag and very odd, I thought. The only time he recognized I was sitting there in front of me was when I was reminding my dad to tell him about a problem he was having. He wouldn't give my dad anything other than gabapentin for severe neurological pain from post traumatic neuralgia, and said if that didn't work, he'd send him to a pain clinic. When we went back for a 360 exam required by Humana, I told him the gabapentin didn't work but he said he was just going to keep him on it... so once again, no pain relief. His idea of a 360 exam was just talking to him and listening to his heart...didn't seem right to me....my dad was 84 and had several medical problems going on. When my father was dying, I thought he might have an infection, but no one would give him an antibiotic without seeing him; he was so sick I couldn't get him into the car and he didn't want me to call 911. Again, no call or sign that anyone cared and yes, he passed away in severe pain. As if that wasn't enough, I took my mother there and he did so little for her (just talked), she didn't even remember going. I took her back just last week because she had bronchitis and we were desperate. There were only two people waiting for him including us, and we still waited 2 hours in addition to another 30-45 minutes at least, in the exam room before he made an appearance. When he did, he took all of maybe one or two minutes to tell my mother she had bronchitis, and was practically running out the door while I was trying to tell him about a nodule on her thyroid...he didn't take time to listen...you'd think someone pulled the fire alarm (and he had some poor intern observing him). As we left we saw him outside hanging around his car...what was his rush? We told the intern earlier about her medicines she needs refilled, but when I called for a refill this morning, it hadn't been approved. It grieves me to put out this information because this doctor is a fellow Christian. but I wish I had read something like this about him before trusting him with my elderly parents.
