We visited Clayton Homes on Clinton Hwy in June after any years of trying to buy a home and was greeted by Zachary Roberts. Working with Zach is by far the best part of this experience. He was courteous, attentive, and took time to explain the processes of everything that needed to be done. Im so glad we walked into Clayton and got him as our advocate. Everyone that I have spoken to as well, Scott the construction manager and Steven for service, have been helpful and polite. Im beyond grateful for the guidance during this stressful and exciting time. Thank you to Clayton Homes and especially Zach Roberts for all you have done for my family!

It took Clayton homes a month and a half after many emails to fix our driveway that they laid very poorly. Everyone who pulled in the driveway got stuck including us! Was told today 10-7 by the contractor that they were just called yesterday 10-6 to come and fix the driveway after being told for a month and a half dont know where the communication was dropped! We Also told our salesperson from the beginning that our master bathroom did not need a tub and that a shower was enough. The master bathroom is NOT what the model was that was sent to us to view via virtual tour. Clayton homes told me months later that the virtual tour home the one we thought we were getting was not the one they ordered! THERE WAS NO PHONE CALL OR EMAIL EXPLAINING THIS!! The vanity in the master bath is smaller than the vanity in the guest bathroom! Something is wrong with that!! They also laid straw on the property which should have had seed under it and NO SEED WAS LAID FOR GRASS! They claim there was! Then where is the grass! I was told that the straw and seed is just for erosion purpose not for landscaping! Thats not right!! Oh and u pay for this in the extra billing which cost $44000 along with all the other extras. If you are in another state while this process is being done make sure ur on top of them every minute and ask for pictures to be sent from the build process. Keep on them!! There has been so many issues and things that were not installed or done correctly that this experience has left a very poor impression on me. Some things r good but too many not good! Before u sign anything with them make sure everything is disclosed and spelled out!

It has been just over one year since I have moved into my Clayton Home from Knoxville, TN (located at 4606 Clinton Hwy). There are four main points I wanted to address in this review, Completed Contract, Site Preparation Time, Excavation Costs, Button-Up on the home. The most import thing for future buyers to remember when buying a home from this company is to demand they see the entire contract before plunking down any earnest money. Pay close attention to the Binding Dispute Resolution Agreement. It is a four page document that strips the buyers rights to filing a class action law suit and trial by a judge or jury. The buyers only recourse left is first mediation and if no success then to arbitration. In my opinion with regard to the wording in the Binding Dispute Resolution Agreement, mediation and arbitration serves to benefit Clayton Homes more than the buyer. If Clayton Homes does not wish to provide you with the above information then my advice to you is to walk away. This information was never provided to me until the week my home was to be delivered to my property, by then I was too invested in the process to turn back. When I told the salesman Chris Lane I was not going to sign the document, he told me my home would not be delivered unless I did. Make sure all of your important conversations with this company are put in writing. Dont expect they will honor their word. Another suggestion I have to anyone interested in buying a home from Clayton Homes of Knoxville in particular, is to hire an excavator whom you know and trust to have the necessary work done to your property before buying the home. Have your excavator put everything down in writing and sign it. If Clayton Homes is not willing to work with you because you have not used one of their excavators or informs you they will not warantee your home, then simply walk away. Clayton Homes provided me an estimate for excavation costs (prior to me purchasing my property) that were nearly 120% under what the actual amount cost me in the end. When I originally balked at the excavator, I was told they would cover one half of any excavator overages. They only honored that commitment once. As the excavation continued, costs continued to rise. Clayton Homes of Knoxville refused to pay for their half of those rising costs. The excavator stopped work on my property until he was assured he was going to be paid. By that time, I was paying for a rental home and storage fees for my belongings. Every day that went by was costing me money. The excavation and delivery of my home took 7 months longer than what was originally told to me by my salesman. Be aware of this scenario when thinking of buying. Consider this may happen to you as a buyer. If you dont have additional money saved in reserves that will allow you to get by until your home is completed, please wait until you do. I thought I would leave my best experience for last and that is the button-up of my home. I also wanted to give a shout out to Norris Homes of Bean Station. I was told my home would be completed and delivered to Clayton Homes of Knoxville in one week; and, they were true to their word. My home was delivered to Clayton Homes of Knoxville on February 9, 2021. I was supposed to close on my home the following month. I finally closed 7 months later. I did have a nice experience with the button-up crew. It did take them 10 months to button-up the home. I dont blame them for that however; apparently, additional workers need to be hired. Even though it took Kenny and Nate 10 months to complete the button-up they did a nice job. Sometimes cabinet doors were not built properly; so, they would have to take them back and re-order new ones which caused delays. They were neat, friendly with great dispositions and took care with their work. In closing, I would like to request Clayton Homes disregard their disclaimer at the end of my review. I have spent a full year trying to get you to take responsibility; so please, spare me.
