My wife and I were gathering up quotes from local insurance agents for auto and renters. Without asking for our specific permission, this agent charged us for insurance after simply asking for a quote on the costs of insurance plans. In other words, we never gave this person permission to charge us for anything. We were simply asking for information. I have been on the phone with this agent and on the phone with Farmers Insurance several times this past week. To no avail, our bank has now opened a dispute with Farmers after both the agent and organization claimed our hard-earned money would be returned to us. No refund has been given thus far. This agent has caused my family a lot more trouble than the business inquiry was even worth in the first place. I would be leery to give anyone my financial information if they were going to charge me for services we did not originally ask to be charged for. Agents need to be very clear with the costs of their services and in asking their clients permission in doing so. The original quote still did not even match how much the agent charged us.a.k.a. we were charged more than the original quote given. If you seek insurance estimates, you might be charged more than the estimate you were given, again just another warning sign.
