First, let me saythis place is amazing! I have spent the last 2 years trying to get answers on why I felt so horrible..chronic fatigue, body aches, no energy and the lists goes on. I could never get my family physician to do anything but the regular physical/blood work although I had been telling him for years that something just wasnt right. I always got the your cbc was ok and you are getting older which infuriated me because I was not taken seriously. I had a friend tell me I should see a functional doctor and at first I was hesitant but I did my research and read a lot of good reviews on The Functional Medicine MD, so I reached out and made an appt. I mean, what did I have to lose right? I had an appt via telephone and then went in for a one on one and bloodwork. I have never had anyone take the time and dive deep into what may be going on with me until I saw Dr. Lela. After extensive blood work I found out it was Lyme Disease(along with other testing that showed a high sensitivity to dairy and yeast) Supplements were added and I took dairy out of my diet and that made a world of difference but I also opted to go with a 5 week IV Silver treatment and it is night and day with how good I am feeling now. I recommended Dr. Lela for anyone needing answers or just wanting to get healthy without being on traditional medicine. The staff there are amazing as well. I actually enjoyed coming in 4 days a week and seeing them They are all so nice and helpful. If I could give a 10 star rating, I would! Thank you Dr. Lela and staff for being such amazing people and caring so much for your patients!

Ive read the reviews and many of us have a shared experience. I too found Dr. Iduna to be condescending in regards to my vegan diet, lacking compassion and rude. She was 30 minutes late to our appointment. Then she only gave me 30 minutes of her time while she blew through 15 pages of my blood results in addition to prescribing a very extensive regimen when there is nothing significant thats wrong with me. Im a postmenopausal woman who experiences fatigue. That 30 minutes of her time cost me $250. And yes, I was expected to just comply with her regimen. She treated me, and my health, like I did not matter. A friend of mine who had cancer referred me to Dr. Iduna and my friend was not prescribed the extensive regimen that I was. That seems incredibly odd. In reading the reviews, it is clear that Dr. Iduna has been given feedback on several occasions that she tends to be condescending and rude. But as of March 21, 2024, she hasnt done anything to correct her cold bedside manner or rudeness. This is a terrible shame because I know functional medicine works. But I refuse to work with someone whos so unwilling to spend the necessary time helping her customers (yes, Im using the term customer, not patient) understand blood results and finding a best course of action. It appears that Dr. Iduna is a better fit for the allopathic/western medicine world where patients are blown off and not taken seriously. Dr. Iduna this is in response to your comment. People are giving you valuable feedback and it is up to you to receive the feedback and make the necessary changes. I spoke with my friend who referred me to you and she also stated that she saw a rude and flippant side to you on occasion. You are responsible for how you show up.

Do NOT go see this doctor. She is INSANELY RUDE. Rolled her eyes when I told her I was in the military and asked why Id join and I should get out. Clearly isnt a fan of vaccines or the military. Horribly unprofessional and I literally left in tears. Honestly I felt bullied by her and completely torn apart. She was shaking her head and rolling her eyes and making comments about past medical treatments I had undergone. However, the gentleman at the front desk is very polite and she should take notes from him on how to properly speak to patients and he should go work for someone else because he is to nice to work for a person like her. She is flat out nuts and rude. Thankfully I did get refunded for the appointment that was $800.

I was so excited about getting started with a functional medicine doctor. I have been eager to invest in my health in a way that best aligns with myself. I had been looking forward to my phone call with Lela for 2 months. Picking someone who was booked that far out made me feel like I was picking someone who was reputable & in high demand for a good reason. I have also enjoyed being on her email list and reading what she writes. I truly thought Lela was going to be a great fit for me! I was nervous about this phone call. I was nervous about what to say, but I didnt know I should be nervous about how Lela was going to make me feel. This phone call was extremely uncomfortable & lacked any sort of structure. She didnt tell me anything about her or her practice. We only spoke for 5 minutes of our scheduled 15 minutes. She made me feel like she didnt care about me & that our phone call was an inconvenience to her day. She didnt make me feel comfortable talking about myself or my concerns. She consistently made me feel invalidated every time I tried to speak. This made me feel like I was dumb for reaching out to her & that everything I was saying was dumb. My concerns are VALID, not dumb. I wish I wouldve felt safe & welcomed. All it took was 5 minutes for another doctor to invalidate me & make me feel discouraged & hopeless. No one should ever be made to feel like theyre not good enough to receive help. Im sure that wasnt her intention, but she was quick to make me feel very foolish for trusting her & her practice. I reached out to you for help & assistance. Instead of being kind & friendly, you treated me like my health concerns were not good enough or big enough for you. If youre only looking for clients with certain issues, maybe you need potential clients to fill out a questionnaire prior to time being wasted. I waited 2 months to speak to you, just to be let down. This is frustrating because I couldve waited 2 months(or less!!) for someone else. I am happy that so many have found success with turning their health around with Lela. I wish I couldve worked with her to do that for myself. Ultimately, I would not recommend waiting 2 months for a phone call that wasnt even 15 minutes long. I am majorly disappointed & discouraged. Thank goodness this was free.

About
The Functional Medicine MD: IV Therapy and Functional Medicine

The Functional Medicine MD is the Premier Functional Medicine and IV Therapy Clinic in McHenry, Lake and Boone Counties. Founded in 2018 by Dr. Lela Iduna a Yale trained Medical Doctor and IFM certified functional medicine practitioner with over 25 years of experience in medicine. Functional medicine looks at the root cause of illness unlike Western medicine which ascribes a pill to a diagnosis. Sometimes theres no diagnosis for diseases and those are the ones that Western medicine is not good at. For example, non-specific abdominal pain is often very frustrating to patients because all the tests never leave a definite diagnosis. Functional medicine looks at the biochemistry of each cell and does specific stool testing and food allergy testing to help treat these non-specific symptoms. The Functional Medicine MD offers a full range of wellness-optimizing services, including functional medicine treatments and tests (ANS testing, Nitric Oxide testing, early cancer detection with the IvyGene test), IV Hydration Therapy, IV Vitamin Therapy, Chelation Therapy, Growth Factor Injections, Argentyn 23 Colloidal Silver Therapy and extensive lab work options.

Dear MarianneWhenever I receive a review, I always look through and contemplate what I could have done better. Yes, I was late 20 minutes and I apologized to you for keeping you waiting. Being on time is very important to me and I do try to not have people wait. However, we are a medical practice and things sometimes happen that are beyond our control. My experience was that I spent time going thoroughly through your test, line by line and explained the results of your test. I made recommendations that I believed could help you feel better, we charged you $225, just like everyone else for initial follow up visit .I didn’t expect you to just comply. I don't have personal preferences on people's diets. However, based on the blood tests, I do make recommendations on what would work better for you and you are free to follow or ignore those recommendationsClearly, every doctor -patient relationship is not a good fit and this was one of them.I wish you the best in your health journeyDr.Lela

Dear TessaI am sorry that you felt that my questions to you were rude and unprofessional. In functional medicine, we do have to delve into your complete life story, everything physical, mental and emotional because we believe that guides us to the root of your health problems. I don't have personal preferences about what someone does for work or what they eat or do for recreation. I do however help you to connect the dots on which/how life choices make us healthy/unhealthy. After that, I make recommendations on what might help you feel better and you are free to take or leave those recommendations. There was no judgement in it at all.I wish you the best in your health journey.Dr. Lela

Dear KaitlinI am sorry to be disappointed by our phone conversation. The purpose of those complimentary consults is to make sure that we are a good fit and in this case, it didn't seem so. I did not think nor say to you that you are "dumb for reaching out to her & that everything I was saying was dumb" or that your concerns are not valid. I offered you more time by asking you if you have any further questions. I apologize for any misunderstanding and wish you the very best in your health journey. Dr. Lela
