8 months ago I visited this places last night because I was having a horrible reaction to a chemical I breathed in a public restroom. When I was finally seen by the PA Presley, I explained my symptoms and told him how much I was suffering. I had been feeling like I was drowning in overwhelming chemical smell and taste for over 36 hours. My chest was starting to burn. I felt like I was in a gas chamber. I was absolutely riddled with panic and anxiety. His response was I dont know what I can do about it what was your plan for what to do about it? This upset me extremely since I obviously had no idea what was happening to me and did not know I was expected to go to an ER, diagnose myself and come up with a treatment plan for myself. I then went to ask the receptionist for the name of the PA. I was extremely anxious and panicked, which I now know is a VALID MEDICAL SYMPTOM of the VALID MEDICAL EPISODE I was experiencing. Nurse Shelby quickly ran over and began to tell me she would have me thrown out of the hospital. At first she refused to give me names until I told her she could not do that. She continued to repeatedly tell me I would be thrown out by security. These people need TRAINING! I experienced a similar incident at the other location. Not an OUNCE of compassion or care! No hand on the shoulder, no we see you are experiencing something here and we are going to help you. No I can understand why you would be panicked this must be awful, we are going to help you Just instant threats and bully type attitudes towards a patient! It is an embarrassment to these institutions. I pray I never need medical attention again and have to seek it at this place. I did not receive any type of compassion until I demanded and was DENIED the legal right to speak to a charge nurse and a different doctor at the other location. The nurse telling me she did not care what I wanted and accusing me of berating the receptionist when I was simply asking to speak to a charge nurse and explaining why I did not want that nurse and PA to treat me any longer. I am in absolute shock at the care I received. I simply can not believe the bully attitudes these nurses and PAs take with patients who are suffering. Once again today I had to be seen for a severe panic attack. My voice was very PANICKED. Nurse Shannon took an immediate aggressive stance with me and threatened to call security and throw me out. Because I had a raised voice from panic. A VALID symptom of panic! I did not use bad language, I did not brandish any weapons. I did not speak any threats. I didnt even get up from my chair. I told Shannon I was having a panic attack , and that there was no need to take an aggressive stance with me and that she should have the training realize whether a patient was being belligerent or panicking. So she had me surrounded with four security officers. BECAUSE MY VOICE WAS LOUD during a panic attack. This is discrimination! THIS is the reason people in mental health crisis ended up dead! Now it has happened to me three times at two locations.. Im curious what yall do when patients with injuries scream in pain? Is it ok then? Or is panic disorder just viewed differently done from any injury you can see and if they cant calm you down with aggression and threats you throw them out? The need to ESCAPE, SCREAM Or CRY is a VALID MEDICAL SYMPTOM of panic! I was also lied to by multiple staff being told I could not have a patient advocate and that the hospital didnt have patient advocates forcing me to make a call during a severe panic attack and get one myself. This institution needs serious training on panic and other mental Health issues because you are doing it wrong and it shows! I havent been able to Find any literature that shows how to handle panic the way this facility does. Its disturbing!
