Rooms, service, and location are great but the overall vibe of the people there was not wonderful. (Other visiting patrons, not the staff. The staff was wonderful, to an extent.) But I just wanted to review this hotel based on the incident I had witnessed from afar. I don't drink much and had a few mocktails that night, so I was very aware of everyone in the room. An extremely drunk white man was harassing a black woman who was there by herself. The color matters because if the races were reversed (black man harassing a white woman) he would've been asked to leave instantly, without question. So this incident begins when this woman came to the bar to enjoy a drink and was speaking with a couple a few chairs over. The drunk white guy came and sat right next to her, and slide her chair closer to him, interrupting her conversation. This alone was weird but she seemed to let it go so we figured they knew each other, and she continued her conversation around this drunk patron. He then began to stroke her hair, which was styled in long braids. Whatever happened to, keep your hands to yourself? Another couple came in and sat on the other side of this woman, with whom she started to speak with, and the other couple left quickly after that. An older woman came over to talk to the drunk man (whom we quickly gathered was his mother) and he began to grab and stroke the black woman's hair yet AGAIN, and even wrapped it around his hand so he could pull it aggressively! The man from the latest couple to arrive switched seats with the woman and said something to the overly-friendly drunk man, who remained at his seat. The staff was over-heard talking to this couple and black woman saying that they had noticed this drunk man's behavior.. so my question is, why didn't they intervene? This woman was clearly shaken up and extremely uncomfortable. Only when this drunk man's mother came over and invited him to leave the bar, did he move. This man was in his late 40s, early 50s! How sad and embarrassing for him that his mother still needs to be out with him to keep him in line! Just when myself and my friend thought this incident was over, we were wrong. At long last, this man and his mother were finally on their way out, but not without stopping by to say goodbye to another patron who was speaking with the black woman and couple sitting with her. Just when they were about to walk away, this disgusting man slowly creeps around the corner to try and grab this woman's hair, AGAIN! Thankfully the woman sitting next to her smacked his hand before he could touch her and yelled "No!" With a finger in his face, as if to scold him like a child. Alas, he put both hands up as if to surrender and said ok, before stumbling off. My friend and myself left the bar at that time, in complete shock and bewilderment after witnessing this. I don't know what came of this situation after that, but I felt bad for the black woman, having to experience this because as I have never had to deal with this. Touching someone without their consent, and continuing to do so, especially after being told NOT to, is considered ASSAULT. Hopefully the staff will not be afraid to intervene and say something next time, because it should not be up to the other patrons to keep the over-served locals in line. Maybe more training is needed? I'm not sure. But something needs to change to keep another incident like this from happening again.
