Dr. Perlman at the Rhode Island Eye Institute is an excellent Eye Doctor. I had a surgery and follow up visits with him. He is a consummate professional with a great bedside manner. Having to have an eye surgery is never an experience you want to have, but Dr. Perlman made the process a minor inconvenience. On a nother note, Dr. Perlman no longer does surgeries and I had Dr. Cook perform a surgery for me and it was an absolutely horrible experience. She has zero bedside manner and is short with you and rude.

I had high hopes for Dr. Perlman but unfortunately I was let down. I am not questioning his expertise in ophthalmology but rather his lack of proper hand hygiene. I was seen by Dr. Perlman on1/30/15. Before leaving the examination room he put my contact lens in my right eye because I was unable to do so. After the fact I realized he did not wash his hands prior to putting my contact mens in my eye. On 2/4/15 I woke up with conjunctivitis in the same (right) eye. My eyelids were crusted shut together. Upon removing the drainage my eye was observed to be swollen, pink, irritated and painful. It is now 2/20/15 and both eyes are now affected. I have been out of work since due to the contagious nature of the disease. I have utilized my health insurance seeing other ophthalmologists and optometrists. In my professional opinion Dr. Perlman's expertise in ophthalmology goes out the window if he cannot abide my the most basic healthcare principle: HAND HYGEINE!!!!! Because of this I am recommending that he be avoided at all costs.

The Rhode Island Eye Institute is an excellent facility and I encourage folks to seek an eye doctor because they have many specialist and is through about eye exams.I do warn you that this eye clinic is extremely crowded with patients and the wait time is extremely long.  The reception people aren't the friendliest either.  They could be rude at times.I'm speaking on behalf of parent and my observations are:4 stars for Dr. Perlman's skills as an eye doctor and surgeon.2 stars for his bedside manners.  If you don't speak english well, he tends to ignore you and says very little about your eyes been examined. I would not recommend Dr. Perlman as a primary eye care but the other eye doctors are kind and patient.  My parent has seen two other doctors while Perlman was on vacation.  He's an excellent eye surgeon if your looking for cataract sugery then I'll recommend him but not for a primary eye doctor. I think he's a bit snobby.

I went to Perlman to have lasik eye surgery.  Luckily he only did one eye because he had trouble doing the left eye.  The next day, I still couldn't see out of the right eye.  After yelling at me in the office because I could not read the chart, he stomped out and let his asst. speak with me.  Well here it is 2 1/2 yrs later and the damage in my right eye is permanent.  Went to MA eye and ear and my only solution is corneal transplant.  Perlman's resolution to my problem:  2 special design contacts for the eye he destroyed.  Once I put on my glasses (for which no lens can be made for the damaged eye) ,  I am virtually blind in the right eye.  And all Perlman did was get mad at me!!Keep your eye sight - do not go to this doctor.
