Over the years consolidation has changed the fabric of the community. I'm afraid the importance of the Parish has taken a back seat to the financial reality related to dwindling congregations. Our neighborhood church was closed by the city because repairs were needed parishioners could not afford to make. With the consolidation many who walked to our neighborhood church were left behind. My family attends, but since we live a few towns away and because of work, I attend St. Philip Church services in Smithfield.
I did attend the Christmas Eve service at St. Mary's with my family. It was a nice service, but the lack of attendance made me feel sad. My memories of a thriving Parish hit me hard. I hope families in the urban communities revisit the importance of their Parish as related to their children's upbringing and its valuable support network. We are never alone when we know God. As parents we must be the ones to Gift our children with the Catholic Church and all it has to offer.

Horrible church called to try to get help for a friend who just lost her husband, they wouldnt even listen to what type of help I needed, she needed someone to talk to and the man on the other end of the phone second I said she needs help refused..not very Christian like and honestly very disheartening that he is who they choose to help those in need
