18 South is a second home to many teens in Red Lion. As one of the 4 staff members I can tell you we love these kids with our whole hearts and we do everything we can to bring them opportunities, resources, and support. Some concerning challenges local teens face are food insecurity, physical, sexual, and mental abuse, homelessness, teen suicide, sexual assault, human trafficking, drugs, and violence. The youth of our community are hurting and turning to unhealthy ways to manage their pain. We provide FREE basic needs and programming for Mental Health and Wellness, Suicide Prevention/Awareness/Postvention, Drug & Alcohol Awareness, and Future Planning/Career Readiness to underprivileged teens. Although Red Lion as a whole falls between 11-13% below the poverty line, young Red Lion Area families fall over 50% below the poverty line and they are struggling. We are Red Lion teens connection to Suicide Prevention of York, York Countys major Suicide Resource. We are Red Lions only connection to Friends & Neighbors, one of York Countys major organizations that cares for the unsheltered population. We serve a FREE home cooked meal 6 nights a week and plan on feeding 50 plus kids daily. All of our snacks and drinks are sold at cost. We have a washer & Dryer as well as an emergency shower. As we literally have kids with no running water on and off. We have a food/clothing/basic needs pantry onsite for teens who cant access other local food pantries due to their age and school schedules. Shame on the local business owner who is harassing our center, teens, and employees, trying to get us shut down and having all of his family and friends leave us nasty reviews and comments. What kind of a person tries to get the only teen centered resource for low income families in town shut down!?!
